Oil level
I don't think I'm stupid when it comes to cars, and a simple thing like checking the oil should be straightforward for a guy who built his own hot rod back in the days........
But speaking to a Turbochip fella yesterday with regards to a re-map, got me on the subject of a clatter I can hear between 1500-2000 rpm. I have read the threads which cover this and am undecided as to go for the re-map before trying to sort this noise with the dealer.
The T/C guy suggested I check the oil as the D3 tends to use a bit for the first 10,000 miles or so. He said that he had heard that the block is porous until it had "soaked" it's fill, rather than burning it off.
Anyway, having had the car only 2 weeks I thought an oil check would, if nothing else, put my mind at rest.
I pulled the dipstick and gave it a wipe, reinserted it and pulled it again. Blimey way way overfilled judging by the handbook! I have taken a pic for ease of exlpaination, but would you agree with my findings?
The level is between the top "ball" and the first series of four shaped plastic pieces in line with the squiggle of oil on the paper to the left. The handbook illustration doesn't even show the upper "ball" but I imagine the level should reach the bottom of the uppermost series of four plastic shapes????

You are correct, from your pic it looks like it has been overfilled by at least a litre. I think the correct level is at the bottom of the ball with the arrow on, but mine has always been up to that arrow.( except for when dealer did exactly this to me), I'd tell the dealership about it and get them to correct the level, as you probably realise, seals etc might start leaking with it overfilled.

the TC guy is correct when he states it uses oil in the first 10k.
I had to top mine up several times.
Since then, I've not had to add a drop between services [now on 65k]
Would also agree with DND and talk to your dealer about the overfill.
sometimes there may be no problems apart from burning the excess, but..?? ..you don't want to chance it.
now put your dipstick away I was a normal heterosexual chap, but in these new woke awakenings I now identify as a Wardrobe.

Just a tip for anyone not in the know, you don't need to drop the sump guard and sump plug to reduce the amount of oil in your overfilled TDv6, just get some nice clean plastic tube that fits down the dipstick tube, long enough to reach the oil, and a plastic syringe or similar, attached to the tube, and keep sucking it out until correct.
