Thanks guys for all your help to get me this far. I now have it all back together as best as possible. Unfortunately I seem to be left with a wicked tapping noise coming from the top of the engine. I can only assume there is more damage done than I care to imagine. I would think there is some bent valves or so. It starts no problem but it is loud and tappy. Is there any return from this. Any sugestions please would be well appretiated.Dicovery 3 (Rimini Red)

There is a previous post from someone. I cannot remember the link I am afraid but it is on here. Maybe a search under snapped cam belt or similar. They found that one of the tappets had bent and something else, they replaced it successfully.
Sorry I cannot be more help but try lots of searching for snapped crank or snapped belt or oil pum fail. Its under that sort of category.Discovery 4 3.0 HSE 2010 year. I like it a lot. Now with winch 😂

Take a vid of the engine running, bung it on YouTube & post the link. Someone might know what it is.

Yes I remember a chap had a similar incident to you. It snapped a rocker and the needle bearings escaped and went into the sump.
I think he fixed it? It might be worth you lifting the rocker covers to see what’s happened. The cylinder heads could be removed, and possibly have a look in the sump before chucking it away?

Is it the left or right side that the noise is from?
May need a 2nd hand head putting on it.

Thanks Lads. Link For the video @ &feature=youtu.be
Sounds Like its Coming From the Left Side of the engine, but I could be wrong, it also sounds like it could be coming from the bottom of the engine also, so I'm not sure, I'm preparing for the worst and am pricing for a replacement second-hand engine, I have a price gotten for a 08 engine with 81000 Miles on it, I am interestest in it, but could be getting into more trouble, OR I could trade it in for A 2014 D4 , But I like my D3 as well Dicovery 3 (Rimini Red)

Finding noise
You can buy a stethescope from halfords or Machine Mart for around £10 I have one and they work well. It has a seek probe you can put against the engine. It could help you zero in on it.Discovery 4 3.0 HSE 2010 year. I like it a lot. Now with winch 😂

That doesn’t sound too bad. My D4 sounds a bit like that with the covers off. !

It would be great if it was something simples. I do think it is down on power and also it feels like its miss firing in one of the pistons if it is a valve tapping or bent is there much work stripping to investigating,Dicovery 3 (Rimini Red)

sounds normal.
If a valve were bent/leaking you would get a fault code (and dash error) after driving as the mixture would be out of range on that cylinder
Yeah that engine cover does make a big difference to sound. Just try driving it for a bit

You could just drive it til it dies, which will hopefully be a long time from now. Then sort her out, sell for parts or strip.
