Quicky question if anyone is passing....2.7 TDV6, when removing the engine oil pump does it lift up then forward, or just forward.....? I'll work it out in the morning when i pull it, but just like to be prepared if possible.....
Looking at the new one I'm assuming there's a stub pipe that fits in the port at the bottom of the pump, if so, i'm assuming I'll need to remove the casting that the big spring tensioner bolts to in order to allow the pump to move upwards.....

There are those long 8mm bolts that go upwards into the pump that need removing.
The bottom just sits onto the sump metal gasket

The pump will only move forwards initially (mine was quite tight) as it is forced against the sump seal at the bottom. There is no stub pipe. Yes the alternator etc mounting bracket does need to be removed first. D3 owned from new, P017 brake recall, BAS FBHIC, new FBH, LR013487 oil pump, new water pump. RRS front lower suspension arms. New suspension compressor/ relay. New Denso alternator. CuNifer rear brake pipes. New GKN rear propshaft. New HPFP belt & tensioner. New A/C Condenser.NO WARRANTY for many many years.

Thanks fellas......sleep better knowing which way to pull it tomorrow.....
So far, not a bad job all in all, starter motor was tricky to move on axle stands to get the flywheel lock in, and i had to polish down the lock pin to pass through the hole, crankshaft pulley came off after half a turn on the gear puller.....other than that, couple of hours so far.
Just for info, the car is 57 plate, and it's got the original 'prone to failure' pump fitted so I don't feel so bad changing the cam belt 50,000 miles before it's due now.

Thanks Pete, just read it and realised I'd read it before.....I think it's a case of information overload now, been searching before this job for a while before I started....but you can never know too much....I've always said that I'd prefer to ask the question and look like a dick for 5 minutes than not ask and feel like a dick for days when it all goes wrong....

Also, if it's any use to anyone, bought the belt locking pins kit from Amazon, £14.99.......
Admittedly I had to shave the flywheel pin where it sits in the big hole in the case down a tad, (few thou' off I reckon) but cheap enough....not sure if the more expensive kits on the market are a better fit?

Quick question if anyone can help, just refitting the starter motor, there's 2 cables - 1 being the main power feed but there's another small cable with a captive nut on it that I assume is the feed to the solenoid - anyone know exactly where it connects? Feeling around in there and I'm if I can feel anywhere.....
I know it's a stupid question, but I had a mate helping me strip it down - he undid the starter and he's gone on holidays today....

Nice one, I was trying to find a pic like that.....it looks like it's right around the back, I obviously need another 2 joints in my fingers...My mate had skinny hands, he might have to cancel his holiday
