Oil and water pump

G’day all
I did a search and looked through but couldn’t find this information, so I apologise if this has been asked before.
With the oil pump, if it has been upgraded to the “beefier” oil pump from the original, do you still need to replace it when you change the timing belt?
And do you need to replace the water pump each time the timing belt is done

Thanks
Daz

No to either, if the Oil pump has been changed previously then its sorted, unless its worn out

Water pump only changed when needed - tensioner tends to go long before the Water pump, so check both whilst its apart for wear/play or leakage.
 Must stop buying shiny toys....

especially the bearings in both the tensioner roll and the guidance roll... they are both prone to wear and not ordinary bearings.... they have rubberseals with a 50.000 rpm rating instead of the more or less standard 18.000 rpm

NTN bearings:
6203LLAX30V342
6203LAH

CHANGE them! Wink

note: it is much easyer to buy complete tensioner and guidance assembly's, since pressing these bearings out and in, is rather diffucult (danger off deforming the steel "roll") and the bearings themselves are very diffucult to source
 Best regards
Harold

one more thing....

should you change the water pump pay attention at the torque of the bolts. they tend to shear off. And it is a hell of work to drill one out.

Thank you Achim
I have read on here a bit about the torque on bolts and it is something I would be very careful of, especially as I am very heavy handed when it comes to working with tools

Yes the bolts are made from Cheese

Still have memories of one shearing - fortunately was able to get a punch onto the end of the threaded part inside the block and rotate it with a few well placed taps and unwound it from the block
 Must stop buying shiny toys....

G’day again
Have a question for the brains trust
I have had to remove the starter to lock the flywheel and as I was removing it a piece fell on me and I am not sure where it is from. Picture attached
It is approximately 1.5cm long with the number 6 stamped on it, not sure if someone’s toolbox is missing it or whether it is part of the starter

My d3 still has original oil pump hence messing about in that area

Cheers
Daz
