Oily substance coming from exhaust?

Very strange situation on my new D3 that the dealer can not explain. There is a small amount of dark oil like substance dripping from my right rear exhaust silencer box very near the outlet of the exhaust system. If it does not actually drip on the floor and the car stands, the substance dries and goes very hard. No problem on the left exhaust. The drip is intermittent - not always there.
Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

As both exhaust tail pipe come from a common pipe from the engine manifolds I would say its something in the silencer. Maybe a dead rat Laughing

perhaps it just needs a good blast.

could it be excessive sealant (I'm not sure if sealant is used to joine the pipes)

So, this oily substance appears to be dripping from the box not the exhaust pipe itself and if it doesn't drip to the floor it sets hard on the box. Correct?

Sometimes both situations are true - it drips on the floor occassionally but also hardens on the box itself. As long as there is sufficient heat it stays fluid, but when it cools it hardens - very hard.

Might it be some of the wax that they spray on vehicles before shipping Question

I'm certainly no expert so this is just a personal opinion. As SKP suggests it could be some preservative wax (or some form of excess sealant) that's on or near somewhere that's getting hot, causing it to drip in its melted state. It's obviously not oil. Personally, I wouldn't be too concerned and I would be surprised if the problem didn't disappear after a few good runs. In any event, you've pointed it out to the Stealer and they weren't phased by it.

Keep us posted Thumbs Up

My HSE diesel has the same oily drip from both exhausts. Big Cry This is intermittent & seems to have stopped for the moment. Would appreciate any news on the matter.

I've had this regularly and had just assumed it was condensation mixing with the soot in the exhaust system. Got a lot of it when I flushed the underside of the car after the recent very muddy trip from Uganda to Sudan, inlcuding flushing up the exhaust.
