Having had water issues in the passenger footwell, I decided to take off the grill in the wing to have a look, guess what I found, a plastic bag with foam in it and full of water, anyone have this before and should it be there ? It was jammed in the recess below the grill.

I would suggest that a plastic bag should not be there.

Sounds like this leak has been an issue for sometime and a previous owner used the plastic bag as a temporary "fix".

Do a search of the forum and there are a lot of threads on how to fix the leak(s)

Thanks, didn't think it should be there, I have checked all the usual suspects, polling filter, sunroof drain, it was slightly blocked at the back of the wheel well, cleared and that's when I found the plastic bag, if it still persists I'll check A pillar and scuttle

That bag should be there, I have the same bag and foam in mine. Looks really amateur but that’s what LR put there.

Example here:- but not drugs lol.

Surprised ! Should it be replaced ? With mayby expanding foam but not another bag, with the amount of water that was inside the plastic bag I would think it would not be a cleaver idea.

Obviously the bag should be dry so it must have a hole in it. I can only think it’s sound proofing so probably not really needed. You could use expanding foam but my concern would be moisture getting trapped between foam and metal.

The OPs not the first to find it and think it’s a cover up job.

Yes, I had something similar when I looked in too. The bags used were sealed crinkly (not soft) plastic (not sure how else to explain). One of the sponges was wet , so took it out of the bag then replaced with what I had indoors and sealed it again. I did repair the water leak (elbow on the drain split). The thing is the water ejects rights next to where the bag is, in the side vent, so even if there wasn't a leak it is hardly surprising that eventually the sponge get's wet. I suspect the same has happened in your car. It's sound insulation apparently.

Same in mine it’s also got water in it. The water from the sunroof ejects just above it as said and you would then expect a straight waterproof run between inner wing and outer. In fact it seems to run to a join in the panels and straight into the cavity where this bag fits. Does this cavity then have a hole at the bottom where the runs runs out? I suppose it must.
On the divers side I found that the black foam behind the air intake for the engine looks to be cut wrongly and seems to actually block the exit for the sunroof drain and just soaks up water Rolling Eyes I have removed this foam but not the ones in the bags. Has anyone removed the wet foam in a bag and any issue with doing so. There is no way it will dry and surely with just turn to rancid soup?! Shocked
