One flick, one flash indicators.

The most irritating feature on my D4 (and previous D4) is when you flick the stalk, the indicators flash possibly 4 or 5 times.
My D3 was absolutely fine and had a “one flick, one flash”.

I’m on holiday up in Perthshire, leisurely driving exploring the smaller roads in the wider area.
Not wanting to hold up the normal “day traffic”, when an appropriate stretch of road beckons, I’d like to give one flash of the indicators to let the following driver know I’m complying with an overtake, should they wish to do so.

Same thing goes if I make an overtake on a similar compliant driver, I’d like to give a one flick flash of the left indicator once the overtake is complete, as a thank you.

Instead, I flick the stalk, the indicators just keep on flashing, just as if I’m about to stop or take a turning on the left …….. so damn annoying!!

So, can the indicators be reprogrammed from this multi flash to a more sensible single flash?

Thumbs Up

(I have a similar ‘one press’ gripe with the washer scoosh……but I’ll leave that one for now) Rolling Eyes

i think most people prefer the multiple flash - it may have been an upgrade on D3's at a time too i think. Not sure if there is an option to change it to a single flash on a D4.

i think if you indicate left and then immediately right, it cancels the multiple flash feature.

Plus N of Perth the dark art of overtaking has mostly been forgotten. It’s better than it used to be but with the averaging cameras have resulted in convoys of cars, vans, etc, sitting on the tail of the lead vehicle, leaving naff all gap to anybody overtaking to go into. And often when the the lead vehicle pulls off or over the next car goes even slower because suddenly he/she has to brain and start thinking as opposed to just following the tailgate in front. Rant over, well for now. Whistle

I think normal practice round here is just to give a single flash of a middle finger while passing a slower car ! Laughing

D4 can do 3 flashes of the indicators with a flick but don't know if that can be adjusted to 1 flash

I'm surprised there have not been any comments about multiple flashes Whistle but then may be everyone is being well behaved these days Rolling with laughter

I'm with you RonP. I prefer full control over indicators. My D3 had 3 flash enabled but I soon found the option in the CCF with my IID so I would hope this is available on the D4 too.

Can't believe people pay to 'upgrade' the OEM single to triple!

I think one flash is dangerous whether it be indicators or headlights as it can be easily missed or interpreted, three flashes (which the D4 can be set to) or a long main beam flash in other circumstances is far more positive, what does it matter if the vehicle behind thinks thinks you are turning left? - three flashes are recognised as changing a lane! You never ever see a lorry only give one flash, always three.
If your D4 does not give 3 flashes when the indicator stalk is half pressed you either need a new stalk and switch assembly as Flack suggested to me on my old D3 when mine didn’t work or you have not got it set up for three flash.
When you pull the stalk towards you you should feel a positive response halfway Thumbs Up

I would like more than three flashes but apparently the value of three is pre-set. I don't think three is sufficient when changing lanes since there is a good chance the first flash will be missed by the drivers of following vehicles since they have more important things to be looking at than the light cluster of the preceeding vehicle, so we are down to probably two flashes that get seen.

Changing lanes in the timespan of two flashes would be reckless, especially with 25 odd feet of trailer attached! So I have just completely forgotten the feature exists and work on the principle of "indicators to on" and then when manoeuver complete, "indicators to off".

At least you agree with me that one “flash” can be missed Thumbs Up

To get one flash activate lever all the way and instantly reset.
So set as if constantly on, then manually reset straight away.

think on our d4 you just put light pressure on the stalk to get three flashes...the stalk dosent click to do that...if you want the full turn flashing you need to pressure more until it clicks..and cancels once complete

bit like the quick washer mode on other stalk
