Ordered my XS yipee advice re side steps
Hi Have ordered my XS ....... with some xtras...locking diff, xenons, santorini black, rear blackout, merdian 17 speaker, tow bar, rear camera, cool cubby box + full spare.
I was considering getting the side steps ........ it appears a very popular option ..... am I right in thinking that it offers some protection agains car park door dings ... It looks like the step is high enough to catch most other car doors..... any thoughts????
Has anybody specified the horrid rubber side dint strips.........are these factory fitted???
Cheers....

Or these......they don't sit out as far as side steps, but probably offer the same protection in off-road car park mode

Not a fan (to put it mildly) of side steps. They don't look good on the car (to put it mildly), and a constant source of smudged trousers. Treesliders are the way to go, also useful when parking in offroad modeRLD Sump Guard

As you've ordered the locking rear diff I would assume you are going to be using it off road, if you are steps probably aren't the best idea Cheers Ian

Hi all thanks for your reply ...... did not realise you can park in off road mode.....will the height
remain.....for hours on end???
Re off roading not intending serious off roading ....... reason for locking diff ... I will be towing a rather large caravan ..... I have had nasty experiences in sticky fields ......... thought this may assist progress ..... without envoking big wheel spin .... which wiould cake the caravan.
I also live up on the west penine moors which can get some pretty serious snow.....

I have ended up with side steps on last 2 motors and have been to lazy to take them off.
I think they enhance the looks
Pros- Kids can get in and out easier
Easier to wash the roof
Car park damage protection
Better access to roof box etc
Cons- Collect a load of crap
Limt off road capabilty
Alloy material pain to keep free of corrosionD4 Landmark MY16 Santorini Black THE LAST

+1 for Euan's recommendation

Cheers ......got them here http://www.direct4x4.co.uk/land-rover-disc...-side-bars
Made by a company called Wimbo....Chinese I believe.I remove them to go off-road,and on inspection, there's very little corrosion after 18months.
Mine were adjustable in the distance you can set them away from the car....about 3 inches either way ISTR....however another member told me the ones he bought (from the same supplier) were not,so I don't know if the brackets have changed since I bought mine "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

Got my Bearmach ones from here - http://www.4x4parts.co.uk/exterior-styling...27411.html . The brackets allow for them to be adjusted by about 3" so I've got mine out as far as possible to assist the kids getting in and out.
Gone up in price a bit since I bought mine in October though

Do these use the same mount points as the LR OEM black side tubes?
Mine are starting to look very secondhand after a couple of off road trips with them (saw them as sacrificial rather than protect the tubes and ding my sills!!)
The grips on top would be very handy as well as the ability to step them out a bit (pun intended )MY15 DIY Black Pack (Better than factory and half the price!)
