P0488–72 (2F) Throttle position control – actuator stk open

I Need some advice since in Southern France on vacation.

D4 Gomes into restricted performance mode not going over 3.000rpm. First the intercooler Hose to Throttle Body had a split. It was replaced but then P0488–72 came up.

I have not Done anything except replacing the Split hose.

Can anyone point towards where and what to Check of look for?

Appreciate your help.

This is a pic of the error code, could it be the EGR valve?

Hi, That will be your throttle flap on the intake sticking.
Take off the intercooler hose going to the centre of the intake (throttle flap plastic) & with the ignition off push the flap gently. I expect you will find it's sticking.

If you renew the valve, run an air path learn to relearn the flap maximum open & closed positions.

regards
Steve

Hi, thanks for the hint. I did this already whilst replacing the split intercooler hose. Took brake cleaner and washed out all the gunk. Cleaned the MAF Sensor as well.

Checked all connectors as well.

Mhhh, is there a way I can Check the EGR valves? If upfront all is clean and ok, it can only be EGR valves?

Checked the intake and flap again, it is freely moving when pushing gently.

I would still suggest its a fault with the throttle flap.
We have changed many with that code.
Why would you presume an EGR valve?

I replaced the Throttle body by another 2nd Hand one and the error Code was the same. Is there a way I can Test the flap Funktion by IID Tool?

Have you run an air path learn routine?
As it will fail this if there is a fault.

I am fairly certain iid doesn't have the function. But SDD does. it recalibrates the throttle flap, egrs & turbo actuator.

Surprisingly the DTC have disappeared. I cleaned the throttle Body one more time, reassembled all. Drove the car for a few km and the error code was still there. Shut off the engine, waited a few mins, started the car and error messages were gone.

Knock on wood, they have not come up ever since.

But, new error Codes came up. Probably not related to this thread. Will post in a new one.

By the way. Have a Brand new Throttle Body from LR in My Garage😩

Error and restricted performance back again.

Changed the throttle intake housing against original new one. Still the same error.

How can I Icheck it is a EGR? Is there any test function on IID tool?

Or….is there a way to check the actuator of the flap in the throttle housing?

The flap moves freely and no gunk anywhere in the intake section.

Came to the bottom of the error code, not Throttle intake housing, not EGR valve.

It is the tube connecting the engine to EGR LR 020547, it has corrosion resp. Holes behind the fireproof textile.

Now, how do I get the EGR with cooler and hose attached, out?

Do I need to take the fuel rail off? Have stripped off the usual, but there is no room to take it out

Thanks for any hints

I guess this topic lacks interest. Just want to update those who might come across the same issue once.

EGR valve with cooler attached came out, but some force needed and engine lifted from underneath front Diff. Fuel rail taken out as well to give more access.

To put it back in OMG…so far no leaks but error code still there.

Now it is the other side to work on, in UK on the drivers side.

Is it a body off job?
