P0915 Gearbox fault

Hello,
My D4 with 6 speed automatic has startes to warn for gearbox fault. Together with that I also get that HDC is not available. It happens sporadically and a restart of the car removes it. It mostly happens when stationary and shifting to P but today it happened during cruising and the car felt sluggish and didn´t want to change gear. A restart cures it and car works fine and shifts gears fine again. I read the codes and I only have one code for the gearbox which is P0915 Gearshift position - Circuit range/performance. I will put the car on the lift and check for suspicious electrics but I just wanted to check with the expertise of the forum for tips where to start looking.

Thanks
Peter

More clues. I checked reoccuring faults after clearing the codes and besides the P0915 in the Automatic gearbox ECU I also get U0402 - Invalid data recieved from transmission control module in the ABS system, the parking brake and the transfer case ECU:s.

Not so many replies unfortenately but I can report if someone else have similar problems that cleaning and lubricating the gear linkage at the gearbox seems to have cured the problem; at least for the last 14 days.

have a look at the mechatronic sleeve, if oil poisoned the connector it may throw up all kind of faults

Ok, weird. The one I am looking in is for D4 year 2009-2011 published in may 2011 and it only has the P0915-01 and P0915-64 but I will look again. Which version do you have?

Well, not really. By cleaning earth points and adjusting/lubricating the gearbox linkage under the car it gets temporarely better but reoccurs after some time. I am pretty sure the problem is the gear position sensor in the TCM in the autobox. It can be exchanged and there is one company in Bulgaria that do it. Will end up there eventually when it happens to often or the car won’t start due to believing it is not in Park. If you go to Land Rover it is a new Mechatronic unit (includes the TCM) which is not cheap. I assume more and more British Discos will have this fault and maybe there is a solution in the UK now?

Do you have the same problem?

Yes however I think it might be the selector stick/mechanism as the trigger is not really working well

The problem has become worse, it throws up a transmission fault every time I drive it, mostly when stopped and shifting from D to R then onto P. same fault code P0915-01. I will have a look at the selector mechanism this week.

I can now add that my problem escalated so needed to do something. Removed the Mechatronic unit and removed the TCM. Sent it to Softelectronic (https://www.softelectronic.com/) in Bulgaria for repair. Not cheap but much cheaper than a new Mechatronic unit. All is now back in the car with new seals for the Mechatronic unit. So far all seems to work but need more time before I can say it is a definitiv fix.
