Paint Wheels Black - or not?
Java Black D3 HSE, standard 18" alloys (currently silver) with Pirelli Scorpion Zeros. I can't make my mind up wether to refinish these wheels in black or not.
Every time I see a black D3 with black wheels I think YES. Then I look at mine with silver wheels and think NO.
I realise this is a personal choice thing but just wondered what others thought about the black-on-black look. My thoughts are maybe better with larger wheels, but not for 18's? (I have no intention of changing the wheels).D3 SE TDV6

Classic RR 3.9 V8 (Hard Dash)
LR 90 (least said...)

Well not quite black-on-black but I went with this combination for a couple of years (they are 19's). I bought these black ones from FleaBay.

But I have been back with silver for the last couple of years (having had them refurbed). I prefer the contrast and the black wheels are a pain to keep clean and avoid washing scratches.
Like you say, all personal, good luck choosing "Track day running - Don't put your foot back on the accelerator until your absolutely sure you don't have to take it off again"

No black wheels for me I’m afraid.
I’m thinking the Discovery 4 is a future classic, despite its faults. Particularly, in my highly personal view, the early D4 with “Land Rover”, on the bonnet, now that JLR have dropped the Land Rover name. And like all classics, the unmolested ones are the best.
The benefits of owning and driving a D4 far outweigh the faults, and the design is timeless. It is a very handsome vehicle, and I always find myself glancing back at it when I park it up, or admiring it as I get back to it. I cannot believe I own such a vehicle, given the price I paid.
The designers put a lot of work in to make the vehicle as attractive as possible to the new car market when the vehicles were new, and they didn’t think black wheels were a good look.
But as always, it’s your vehicle. Do as you wish, and if you get the same pleasure from looking at your D4 as I do after you’ve “personalised” it, as many owners do, the crack on and stick a set of black wheels on. You can always go back to silver if you change your mind…..I’m a Disco 4 believer. What a vehicle!

As Icarus says, you can always go back. Give it a go, and see if it tickles your fancy. I have a Stornoway Grey D3, and I have an ongoing discussion with myself regarding white wheels for my winter ones.

Personally, I wouldn’t go ‘black on black’, unless ‘blackout’ is definately the look you’re after.
When I had my Java D3 I went from ‘silver’ to ‘dark shadow chrome’, and for me it worked well....... always on the road less travelled 🚧
< ‘tis but a mere scratch …….. it’ll polish out.

I have black wheels on Tonga green and don't like it, and am actively looking for wheels to replace them.
If I can't find something local I might fire up the spray gun and go lighter on the ones I have. They aren't OEM wheels, TSW aftermarket and the OEM's are gone to the sands of time.

I had the 6 spoke wheels on my D3 redone in black, it was a nice contrast to the silver paintwork.
But, after a while the powder coating started to discolour and it didn’t look as good.
My plan was to have them redone in silver but the cars gone to Land Rover heaven.
My D4 is yulong white and the standard silver wheels are being kept.In loving memory of FA54WSK.
Zambezi silver D3 HSE.

I changed the wheels on my D4 to Black quite quickly after I brought it as I really don't like the std ones.
I also went down to 19's as I prefer the look of them on a D3/4.

I dropped down from 20" Black Landmark wheel to 19" dark Graphite Grey wheel for the comfort and ride and much prefer the 19" ones.
