Painting new brakes

Hi all. Looking for some advice.

Have got a new v8 brake kit for the rear of the shed, new sliders etc and decided to put new calipers on also. They are new Shiney silver now but I want to paint them gloss black, will probably use hammerite. What’s the general consensus for prep ? I’m thinking clean with brake cleaner and maybe a primer or something ? Also want to paint the new disc bells and edges.
Advice or tips greatly appreciated.

Thumbs Up

Hammerite is Censored !

Hammerite is for wrought iron gates, and old garden implements you don't really want to use any more.

Get a proper gloss enamel, or even heat resistant engine gloss.

I used Gunk to scrub my Brembo's then dried off and quick rub over with 320 emery to etch then used bright red smoothrite. I used the silver hammerite for the disc bells. Used a stanley blade and thinners to clean off excess on disc faces and hub faces.

Didn't worry about disc edges though.

Did mine with gloss black Hammerite. Cleaned first with a brush and some degreaser.

Now 2 years later, the one remaining calliper that I painted is nice shiny black. The rest have been replaced since and I haven’t got round to painting them yet.

Thanks all for a varied view ! My brembo’s are gloss black and In almost perfect condition. Little bit of bubbling on the harmonic dampers which i’ll Touch up at the same time. It’s just the new rears I want to paint. Thinking satin on the discs etc and gloss on the calipers.

To be honest I’ve used satin black hammerite on the various parts like wheel hub uprights etc and as long as you prep properly it’s as good as anything.

Mikey.... how’s that v8 coming ? We need updates !!! Lol. Thumbs Up

Shame I wasn’t closer or I’d be there helping.... saying that I’ve been on mine every spare minute. Almost said “screw this” and stripped the whole car for a ground up rebuild myself. Not yet... if I find a good one with a knackered engine then.... Laughing
Already know for a rrs tdv8 that’s had a heavy rear end smash... Whistle

Need to get the underside of the body rubbed down and rustproofed first. That's taking long enough to get done anyway Rolling Eyes

And the diary is full until at least the 12th February just now, which I shouldn't really be complaining about, but... Big Cry Laughing

If you use a non acid alloy wheel cleaner the callipers stay in good nick for a long time.

My fronts are britpart and are three years old and you can still see the gold finish.
