Hello all,
Just dipping in to see you from the Defender2 forum as I do from time to time, to ask a favour and to pick your brains.
Sister-in-law's 05MY D3 TdV6 manual is showing the message "Park Brake Fault". The hand brake light had come on on the A12 earlier in the day but went out again later. We had been towing.
Does this immediately stand out to you all as a known problem or is it something that could be 1 in 1,000,000 number of things?
Thank you all very much in advance for all your usual kind assistance and suggestions. If any of you feel like dipping in to the Defender2 forum, I'll be the first to help if I can.
Seb

Could be lots of things, seeing as it came on 'on the move' and went out without intervention, it could be anything from a missing CANbus message to problems with the gearbox X-Y sensor

Cheers 10FC sounds as though it's something that would benefit from being connected to the computer for an exact diagnosis. Pain in the proverbial really.
I suppose not too bad to have that kind of problem after nearly 5 years on the road with nothing major.

Ah! Thanks Mikey. Bob and I had said to each other that it felt as though the clutch was slipping a little at one point.
What would this mean for the park brake?

I had that last weekend on the way back from Silverstone to Cambridge. Was driving along changed down for a corner, then changed up put foot on accelerator the engine revved but no gear engaged ... very strange. Pulled over ... waited ... strange burning smell. Started the vehicle, managed to get going again Park Break Fault light appeared, hobbled the remaining half mile.
My 56 D3 is now @ Marshalls having new gearbox, clutch and flywheel and also have PDC, Radio, SatNav issues sorted (hopefully), electric clicks on radio, bluetooth along with volume button not working sometimes along with steering wheel controls not working.
BTW, did you notice if the dashboard LCD gear indicator disappeared also?

Why the new gearbox? seems a bit extreme for just a slipping clutch

I dunno?????
Still under warranty so I am not complaining. Once I get her back this week then I shall post the post-op diagnostic and reasoning.
I guess the expensive smell as I changed gear might be something to do with it.

Thanks rcastley. Sounds ominous. Sis's D3 will go into Lookers this week I think... will post the results to see if the slipping clutch things is a pattern.
Who needs aerodynamics?

Just as an FYI, I was advised by Dealer not to drive the car with the Amber Park Brake Fault light on so I had it recovered! Java Black 2006 SE

A clutch is the problem. New one being fitted by Lookers Chelmsford for £1060 incl. vat after an initial quote of £1500+vat
I guess the tow just tipped the scales on a nearly past it part
Happy trucking guys. Who needs aerodynamics?

New clutch and flywheel for me. Also new power amplifier to fix parking sensors, radio and sat-nav. Apparently they are all linked into the power amp. Java Black 2006 SE

Can you explain the connection between a slipping clutch and a handbrake fault light.
