Park Distance Controls (PDC) fixed - with photo

Following failure of the front PDC earlier this year, (http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic128990.html) recently the rear system starting behaving erratically.
IID revealed two sensor faults and two electrical faults with the rear system. I suspected the wiring as usual (have never had the sensors actually fail). Removed rear bumper (http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic47084.html?highlight=remove+rear+bumper) and extracted the loom.
The main problem is Landrover's complete inability to properly protect vulnerable wiring!!
Continuity testing revealed three wire faults. These were cut and rejoined with crimps.
Photo 1 typical poor original wiring wrapping
Photo 2 corrosion damage to wire
Photo 3 crimped connections
Photo 4 connections sealed with self amalgamating rubber tape
Photo 5 fully wrapped wiring loom - same as repair done on fronts

Take care to maintain the wiring lengths for each sensor branch and the distances between them - the loom has to fit back into the polystyrene wiring trim before reassembly back into the bumper.

Whole job took about 3 hours, but a good hour wasted on rusted in screws on the rear mudflaps, so at least two hours needed.

Trim removal tools

These are available on eBay for £1.99
Absolutely invaluable, especially when removing the top 4 clips on the rear bumper - you need to hold the tailgate about 45 degrees open, lift the inner flap, and somehow get in the gap to pull the centre plastic pin out of the clip, before removing the remainder of the clip. These made the whole job much easier.
