Parking Brake Fault - Help Requested |
|
I have a Disco 3 that is giving me a parking brake issue.
It displays a message on the dash saying auto release is unavailable and the iiD tool is giving me the following fault code:
U0101-87 (A8) Lost communication with transmission control module - Bus signal/message failure - missing a message
There are no other codes at the same time. I have cleared the fault but it returned.
The fault light sometimes goes off when I release the brake manually but returns as soon as the car starts moving.
Any thoughts on what to look for would be gratefully received. BTW, the handbrake module was replaced in March.

Morning,
A search for that fault codes brings up a lot of reading including an article that states the EPB module had failed (against that code) noting you said yours was replaced!

Cup of tea and have a read. There may be clues here.

Thanks.
I have had a search but I only find topics related to several TCM comms failures.
My fault is coming up as a single fault with no other faults being logged at the same time and no other CANbus failures, as far as I can see.
This makes me think that it is something specific and not related to the CANbus but specifically to the connection between the park brake module and the transmission, which won't tell the hand brake to auto release.

Well that is interesting! I'm getting faults for things I don't have! It must be a Land Rover!
It's a new fault that started a couple of days ago.

Do your gears show up on the dash? This will flag up parking brake error as well.

Yes the gears show up on the dash.
Everything works as it should apart from the no auto release warning and the orange light on the dash.

I've carried out a bit more investigation.
Some more clues!
The fault only comes on when reverse is engaged with park brake on. Once cleared it does not come on when 1st is selected or when reverse is selected and the park brake has already been released.
Turned auto-release and auto park brake when key out off.
The fault still comes on when park brake is on and reverse is engaged.

I have exactly the same issue - just had my transfer case flashed and re-calibrated and have the same fault coming up.
Any help will be welcomed.

The system was renewed in March and the brake appears to work properly with no sign of sticking shoes.
The fault light comes on as soon as reverse is selected and the park brake is engaged, so before the system or I have tried disengaging the brake.

I've just been for another drive and although the gears show up on the dash there is a delay of around 3 seconds before they do so and the R doesn't show up at all.
Previously, the gears showed instantly when changed.
I was also wrong about it only faulting in reverse, it does it as soon as the car starts to move.
Any thoughts?

I'm not sure what you mean by the gears calibrating?
