I ordered a new Passport just over two weeks ago.
I used the online system, uploaded a photo from the Timpsons system that checks it meets the criteria, I had texts to say they'd received my old passport (sent first class recorded and that they were issuing a new one about a week later).
It arrived yesterday via courier through the letterbox.
I was very impressed. Jim

Likewise, I ordered a new passport at New Year. Took my own photo on my phone and uploaded it. From first contact with them to new passport in my hands was less than 2 weeks.
Unless someone has forgotten their renewal and needs one yesterday, I fail to see where the "can't cope" bit comes from. Just Tories wanting an excuse to privatise it? Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

I think that's the real agenda ... there are always going to be sad/horror stories of ruined holidays, so let's highlight those and use it as a reason to offload a load of civil servants into job-insecurity.
When I had a deadline ( but not "yesterday " ) I needed last renewal for, spoke to them on the phone and was told just use normal route and if it's not back by such-a-date, call us and we'll pull it out of the queue. Came back so quickly, I didn't need to do that .

Wife’s renewal applied electronically with photo over 2 weeks ago. Asked for old passport. According to passport office, not received. However it was signed for on 14th.
Luck of the draw?

It took 8 working days from signed receipt at Peterborough to it being updated as received on their system when I did mine last month. From there it was about 10 days until the new one arrived on my doorstep. I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Just checked mine in case I'd got my timings wrong.
I sent in the application on New Year's day (a Saturday and I was bored) and then the Monday was a Bank Holiday, of course, and the "valid from" date is 13 Jan. So I reckon that's pretty good turn around - 7 or 8 working days.
As others have mentioned, there was a delay between the old passport tracking showing the old one had been signed for and them sending me a text confirming receipt, but then it was only a couple of days before the new one arrived. Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

I replaced mine last autumn, online and very speedily, if a little expensive when you include the postage of the old passport.
I actually quite like the look of the French-designed Polish-printed new one. Shame about the loss of up to 170 jobs in the UK though.
Of course my previous one - which afforded me the right to work, study and retire freely across much of the European continent - was undoubtedly more useful. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

I've used both the digital site for my daughter and the collection service. Both were excellent.
However, the quality of the new passport is not a patch on the old one. The gold coat of arms on the front has almost worn off and I only got it in October! D4 HSE EU6 (Known as Jeeves)

So based on the above, nobody really seems to be having any issues. It's almost as if the OP just regurgitates whatever horlicks he's read in the Daily Mail simply for the outrage/blood pressure value.

Tories want to sell the Passport Office to their mates. Put out a story to the rags. Rag readers regurgitate said story.

Sounds like the fuel shortage, a few garages run out and it’s a national shortage driven by the media.
Some will probably have had problems due to passport office or themselves filling it in wrong, but maybe don’t wait until just before you need it………

clearly nodosh doesnt watch the national news to see many travellers facing grim outcomes when wanting to travel,,..thats how it became a national item...,nothing to do with me reading a daily paper.,,i dont read national papers......my experience of the passport office is fine...threats to privitise on poor performance
is a sad reflection on our political performers,,,who lets face havent performed that well recently
