Phones compatible with LR Bluetooth system ? |
|
Hi Folks,
Has anyone identified a mobile phone, preferably Next G, that is fully compatible with the built-in LR blue tooth system ? I need to get a phone to replace my old Sony Ericcson T610 (which does not work with the system).
The LR list, being based on European sourced phones, is of limited assistance.
If I cannot get Next G may have to settle for GSM - stuck with Telstra either way.
Any comments or suggestions welcome.

Andy,
Are you sure the radio in the SE has blue tooth ? If so I had better have good look in the book,
I did see something about it a long time ago but assumed it was only available on the premium audio
Hope you are right, I will have a look .

Hi Rob,
No, in a rash moment while placing the order I opted to part with megga mulla and specified the personal telephone integration system - which is a blue tooth system (no cradle or arial though) - so no, you have not missed anything.
The system integrates with the Hi-ice radio (not sure whether it works with the standard SE radio) and, so far as I am aware, has to be specified from the factory. It allows you to search your phone book via the radio display and take/make calls from steering wheel mounted controls - or speech commands.
Just requires a more current phone than i have at the moment.

Hi Andy, I have the Blue Tooth phone set up in my RR which is the same as the D3 and I have a 2 year old Sony Ericsson and it works well with the RR’s phone set up.
Although I have a cradle, it is not compatible with my phone so I simply hook it up to a cigarette lighter in car charger and the phone works fine like that.

I had the same question one year ago.
I asked my dealer and he explained it is simple. The Land rover supports some bluetooth protocols. If the phone can use one of these protocols, it will communicate. If not, it will not.
I can check if i still have the notes I made at that time. Not sure if the my2005 will have the same protocols as the later models. I believe it was 1.11 ans 1.12 but not sure at all. Some people get by

I have this phone:
http://www.palm.com/us/products/smartphone...asheet.pdf
which uses Bluetooth 1.2 and works in the d3
So phones using Bluetooth 1.2 should work. Some people get by

Thanks for the replies - am particularly interested to know which Sony Ericsson phone you are using Drivesafe.
Re-the Palm, am not really after that type of phone (but thanks for the suggestion); also LR say that it is not fully functional in their list of compatible phones. Unfortunately every region seems to carry different versions of phones that either look much the same or have very similar model numbers - while being in practice quite different internally. A very effective exercise (conspiracy...!) in obfuscation..... Have my new year Disco..! Hi Andy, I had to go and look up which phone it was as there is no model numbers on the phone itself and guess what, mine is also the T610.
Have you turn on the Blue Tooth feature in your phone.
How mine worked was to turn the Blue Tooth feature on in the phone and then I let the RR search for a phone connection.
All took about 60 seconds and I was up and running.
The reason I still have such an old phone is that, after having heaps of different phones over the years, this Sony Ericsson has proved to be the most reliable BY FAR.
Although I connect the phone to the In-Car charger if I’m doing a long trip but just running around town, I leave the phone in my pocket and it works fine.

Hi Drivesafe,
I am intrigued. My T610 goes through the motions of synchronising but does so badly - there is generally more than one number per entry but so far as i can tell only the first number loads and you cannot see what it is. Also, if you try and make/take a call it appears to drop out - although when the vehicle was handed over it did seem to work....
I agree that the 610 has been reliable - and tough! - though have never been a fan of the fiddly joystick.
I believe that the RR Sport system may not be entirely the same - though heaven (or LR!) only knows why not !
Have you any hints or tips on using the system ?
I am investigating the new Sony Ericsson K850i; The W850i is said to (by LR) be fully compatible and with the same number a Sony Ericsson rep felt it would have the same/similar software - although they are different phones! For what it is worth, apparently the "W" prefix stands for "Walkman" while the "K" stands for Camera.... The 880i variant may be another option - only problem is that I can find no sign of any Sony E phones available through Telstra - hope to get into a dealer to check later today.

Yea but the string always breaks when you drive off and whips around and hits you in the face.
Seriously, I don’t know how your display works in the D3 but in the Range Rover, you can either dial a number or go to any of the numbers stored in the phone by entering a letter or two of the name of the number you want to call.
I haven’t bothered trying the voice commands so I don’t know how that side of it works.

Hi DS,
With your system can you see and access different numbers listed under the same name - eg Mobile, work, home etc ?
Also do you have any problems with the phone staying paired to the system?
I can make a call on the LR system with my T610 but shortly after making the call the LR system hands it back to the mobile - ie loses hands free.
I also visited a Telstra store and tried the new Sony Ericsson K850i. Great looking phone with lots of features and able to work on just about any system - GSM, Next G (HSDPA) etc - so just what I am looking for.
It synchronises with the LR system very easily and very quickly but appears to only load the first number listed against any name and, unless they are manually labelled, you do not know which number you are using.
Would be very interested to know more about how yours comes up Have my new year Disco..! Atacama Sand, active diff, active headlights, hi-ice, cooler, sliding loadspace floor, window tint, MP3, Mantec plate, roof rails, mud

Hi Andy, I actually use a different names in my mobile phone for each phone number if a person has a number of different phone contacts, IE, Joe Home, Joe Work, Joe Mobile.
So I haven’t come across and so far once the RR connects to the phone. Once I pull up and turn off the ignition, I have to walk away from the RR before the connection releases. This is only a problem if I’m still talking to someone.

So you need to load the phone manually and effectively cannot use a Microsoft Outlook phone book on your PC to keep your phone phonebook up to date, is that correct ? Bit of a pain.... No I don’t use anything other than the phone, it’s never been connected to a computer.
I simply press the remote to unlock the Range Rover and Blue Tooth in the RR takes over, connecting to my phone before I even turn the ignition on.
I only have about 30 different numbers in my phone and they are all available via the phone screen in the RR.
The only problem I have had is on a couple of occasions, when I first get into the RR, the phone phone would not dial out using the in car screen. In coming calls are fine.
I discovered the problem has been because I have had a missed call on the phone before I got to the RR.
My phone is set to Auto Lock after I finish a call. On entering the RR, the RR’s Blue Tooth automatically unlocks my phone but for some unknown reason, it will not automatically unlock my phone if there is a missed call on it.
On these occasions, I have had to unlock the phone manually then all is fine.
Other than that, the phone works fine. 2008 TDV8 RR Lux + 2009 D4 2.7
