Piano/gloss black interior trim
Hey guys
I want to upgrade the interior trim (1 piece on each of the 4 doors) the centre consol pieces and tab below the SAT NAV.
I can buy the pieces for $350 from a wreckers or get mine painted at the smash repairers in two pack paint, do you reckon the finish would be the same as the OEM ones?
I will have to buy the gloss black steering wheel buttons from duckworths but looking to trim costs where I can.
Thanks

The smash repairers would be able to match the OEM finish with no problem. Should be a lot cheaper than $350 too.

Thanks Willy, thats what I thought!
Yeah its only $200 for the 7/8 pieces which is ok in my books, should see the price on eBay for just one door trim, its ridiculous!
Now, if only I could find the steering wheel buttons cheaper too..

Actually, do you think it would be possible to take the steering wheel buttons apart and just paint them too?? i might need to pay closer inspection in the morning..

Yes, you could take the switch pack apart. It's what I'm going to do with the switch pack on our new D4 when it arrives (£500 from LR to have black inserts in the UK!)

yeah I don't know why I didn't think about it earlier as it seems so simple, that is, until you open it up!
when does your D4 arrive, are you keen to guinea pig it for the forum?
otherwise, I may get bored this weekend and decide to start so if I do I will report back..

you will of course lose the little white pictures of a horn, apart from that it should be hard to tell the difference.
Otherwise genuine ones are 182GBP from duckworths for the pair.
Any idea why LR gloss black the section under the GPS, the coin/ash tray, the centre console but miss the bit right in the middle where the climate control etc is? I think i might add that or do you think it might be too much?

I have a spare D4 steering wheel here ready to strip to use the switches to spray. It's easy enough, remove the airbag, remove steering wheel, unscrew and remove switch packs from wheel, strip switches down and keep lots of small parts safe, send switch pack shell to spray shop
It's the 'keep lots of small parts safe' step which is holding me off cos I know I'll lose them as the new D4 isn't arriving until June

This is something I would like to do, are the door trims pull off or does the door card need to be taken off?23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

ok, so I have the following update:
1) Sat nav lower trim - easy to remove, simply pry up.
2) Traction control surround - not so easy, need to remove all the instruments (cigarette lighter/traction control etc) to get the surround off.. not sure how to get the dial off the TCS yet.
3) Steering wheel buttons - as per most LR's - simply pop the airbag off and unscrew the buttons.
I'm unsure how to release this loom which is connected to the underside of the TCS etc, looks like it has some sort of additional fastening.. any tips?
Haven't tried the door trim yet, will advise soon.. looks like if you remove all these parts for spraying you will be without a car for 2 days so be prepared.

I got the parts back from the shop and have installed them in the car, for $200AUD to be sprayed gloss black i'm very happy with the result, the car has definitely gone up a notch in class and style!
not much else to do, for now.
