a picture of a compass on my cd/radio display
Hi all. I noticed today when I was using the sat/nav I very briefly got a picture of north pointing compass on my cd LCD display from time to time with something written underneath it. Never noticed this before - is it normal ? 2007 TDV6 HSE 'Silver Lady'. With 'free' privacy glass LOL.

talking of compasses, when I go into the nav screen and select compass it tells me there isnt one fitted ?? should there be? its a HSE with the premium sat nav etc.2004 TDV6 HSE Auto Zambezi Silver
To get the compass to display you need to go into off-road nav first then 4x4 info. Dunno why it's like that, it just is The End

Could it be the little 'compass' icon you get when fiddling with the various off-set funtions for Sat Nav / voice info etc. For example, when under sat guidance, when the voice starts to give you a direction - turn the volume knob / steerting controls and you get the icon and a number that allows you to alter the volume in realtion to the radio volume. I suspect this is what you've seen - and it is very brief.D3 HSE V8...

its the fact that you get a message saying the compass is not fitted 2004 TDV6 HSE Auto Zambezi Silver

There is a relation between the settings of the satnav and the compass. Follow the steps below to get to get the compass in the 4x4 info screen. (I just found this out 2 weeks ago...)
First, you need to make sure that you are in offroad mode of the navigation screen. Do this by pushing the left button (the real button from plastic, not the one on the touchscreen) and selecting offroad mode.
Then, in the navigation screen, you need to select the view where the map is overlayed with the compass, such as in this picture:
Once that is selectected, you will get a view like this (also showing the compass):
Then, go to the 4x4 information screen and you will see the compass. You don't need to be moving to get the compass. The compass:
When you don't have the correct view in the navigation screen, you will get a message saying 'Compass not available', such as in this picture:
I'm not sure why this is, but it is probably because the navigation screen only calculates the compass when it is shown, and the 4x4 info screen needs the navigation screen to provide the compass...
Good luck,
Klaas
