A pillar trim removal, how to? |
|
Due to a duck my windscreen needs replacing.
From last time I remember that the carglass chaps just ripped of the A pilar trims and broke all the clips. They glued it back with kit f s
So, in order to prevent this I remove them myself this time.
- Do I slide them up or gently pull them off?
- I probably need the remove the lower horizontal trim as well? Is this a question of removing the wipers? CLUB ILLEGAL CAR WASHERS

Its a standard replacement part for ALL screen fitters, and Autoglass should fit a new one and new clips, it comes with the screen.
When you book it in, insist that this is done

Renton,
here's a few steps:
-pull back door weather strip by pulling the rubber (not the felt, it may tear) - white gummy stuff may get to your hands from behind the weather strip
-prise the plastic cover with "Airbag" written on it (it's not too stiff to prise) and undo the screw in there (seem to recall it's torx)
-pull the trim towards the other side, e.g. pull drivers' towards passenger and two clips will come undone
-wiggle the unclipped panel gently till it's removed
IIRC, that's about it! Clips may break but they're under £1 each (or should be!) and most dealer stock plenty of them... may be able to get you a part number in a mo...
Hope this helps

Thought as much when I re-read and you mention wipers
Outer is just as easy:
-open the bonnet
-pull the trim diagonally up and break the clips (same part number as above for the clips)
I did find however that instead of the clips, you are more likely to break either of the fixed studs or the catches that hold the clips or both, so part number for the whole outer will be needed...
The upper stud from memory is in some foam protector and may not be immediately apparent it is broken so check them both
Oh, and the lower clip is different than the others, either all yellow but lower (white) or vice versa...

Did mine on Sat to fit new RAi. Get long flat screw driver. Wrap bit of cloth round end of secrediver and slip it ip the trim from the bottom with bonnet open. gentley prise it in and up whilst pulling the trimup wards away from windscreen. The sun had been on my car all morn so i think its stopeed the plastic clips from being brittle. I got mine off intact and never broke a clip. Good luck Edit = order new clips anyhow theirs small rubber seals on the white plastic clips that stops water getting into pillar and eventually into footwell. Part no=DHB500400
