Pioneering poles - Hampshire to Edinburgh
This is a double subject post.
1. I need to move about 20 wooden poles up to 3m long from Hampshire (Alton) to Edinburgh. Can anyone suggest a good way or couriers who can handle that length of pole?
2. Does anyone know of pioneering pole suppliers a little closer to Edinburgh than Hampshire. Ideally, not machined round fence posts, but natural branches or sapling type things for Pioneering with the Scouts.
Many thanksD1 300Tdi - gone

I can't believe that there isn't anythig more suitable closer to home given the amount of timber wagons on our roads!
I'll have a word with my colleague who has his own larch forest that he manages for sustainable timber here in Argyll - he usually mills them to order for cladding etc.
20 (or more) lengths are less than a trailer load - all you will need is something like a 12x6 Ifor flatbed to collect them. What sort of diameter are you looking for? (It is a long time since I did any pioneering with the Scouts - like 45 years - and in that time I suspect that things will ave changed!) Also, will it matter if they still have the bark on?Currently 2009 Disco 3 SE, 2013 MY D4 HSE and 2016 D4 SE

Update:
Spoke wit my pal and he has advised that:
1 You are effectively looking for what are known as '3m pallet logs'
2 The market value for around 20 is between £50 and £100 (total)
3 He suggests that you contact someone at either Tillhill or Euroforest and offer a photo-opportunity in return for suitable logs - provided you are happy to collect, and take them with the bark still on.
Failing that he might source some for you from his own woodland for a modest fee, but you will need to travel over and collect (unless you are in no hurry in which case I can at least get them to Dundee when I next visit D-Mikey)Currently 2009 Disco 3 SE, 2013 MY D4 HSE and 2016 D4 SE

Brilliant! Thanks WB.
Bark on is not a problem. We would like something like 2m poles with a butt diameter of 2-3in, and some longer 3m poles, 3-4in.
I have some contacts with Tillhill because of some small involvement I have with the Scouts and MBA. Happy to drive to pick them up but would have to go on the roof bars as I have no trailer!D1 300Tdi - gone

If you are looking at 2m lengths with a 2-3" butt (I'm glad someone else is bi-lingual in measurements) then you might be able to get away with pulpwood logs - most of which end up at the Caberboard factory at Falkirk.
20 of 3m poles will be a stretch on the roofbars - to put it mildly - so maybe see if you can borrow a trailer (assuming you have a towbar?).
I'm about to head off on holiday for a couple of weeks so will leave you to explore options with Tilhill etc. If you haven't made any progress by the last week of October then come back to me and I'll see what I can persuade my mate to come up with Currently 2009 Disco 3 SE, 2013 MY D4 HSE and 2016 D4 SE
