Thanks for all the replies.
A question on rotation, I have rotated these once but just swapped the fronts for the rears.
Are these tyres asymmetrical so I can swap on the diagonal? If so I will try that.

Whether they are or not if they have steps on them swap them diagonally or at least on the same axle you, will have no problem checking them for steps just rub the flat of your hands over the tread, if stepped you will feel them instantly. Swapping them front to back is a waste of time as they are still rotating in the same direction, It used to be part of the service schedule but since the trend to road bias tread it seems to have been dropped. It can when others can't,

I am not sure whether they have an outside side, but that is a completely different issue. The outside will be on the outside whether it is on the left or right unless the tyre was put on the rim the wrong way around. Then it will be wrong left or right. Visitor - Freelander owner

Any recommendations on a DIY method? I have a heavy duty jack and lots of axle stands but going corner to corner is pretty hard with the wheel articulation... also seems a bit risky to get all 4 corners up on stands.
Perhaps it is just easer to get a tyre shop to do the rotation?

If you have a spare which you would prefer to keep as a spare. Say, front right off, put spare on, put front right on rear left, put rear left on front right. Repeat other diagonal.
All up it's only 6 lifts. Can't you lucky ones do it with the air suspension. I saw someone changing a wheel in the outback using the air suspension.

If I was going to do this I’d definitely invest in one or two of the guides that you screw into the hub to line the wheel up with the bolt holes easily. Saves doing your back in jiggling the wheel around!

Use a trolley jack and jack up under the lower suspension arms taking normal chocking precautions, you will not need to open doors as it will not effect the suspension and will not go into off road height, the wheel only needs lifting enough to clear the ground.
I use this method spring and autumn to fit my summer or winter tyres. It can when others can't,
