Please explain me hitch options for LR3
I just bought LR3 V8 with no hitch installed. Hitch is also not included with a car.
AS I plan to use the Disco for many recreational purposes, from carrying THULE Bicycle Rack to towing a camping trailer, I want to equip my LR3 with a hitch. Therefore, I have the following questions:
1) As far as I understand, all LR3 are equipped with the possibility of "plugging" a hitch. Is that correct? Does it also mean that there is an electrical installation for the trailer?
2) I found so many different hitches on the internet, all of them look completely different and all of them look like factory equipment. Could you please explain to me what options there are? Are they interchangeable? What pros and cons do they have?
3) The hitch socket in my car looks quite rusty. Not falling apart, but there is more than just surface rust. Can this be exchanged without welding a car? Or maybe this is normal, and I can use it with this condition without a problem? What is your experience?
PS.
I plan to do body off inspection, conservation and repairs anyway but after de season during winter time.

So in short for a "Discovery 3" in europe, you have one set of options (legally in europe) and for an LR3 the options are different - LR3 naming is US market and so uses a 2" receiver hitch.
The exception to this is Australia where they too have a Discovery 3 but also use a 2" receiver hitch
Basically you can use the standard removable ball - best used with a security plate
You can use the LR heavy duty tow plate which has side stays (multiple variations of this from Thule/witter/Brink) - the one in your link basically
You can use the tow trust tow bar which most believe to be the best which also has side stays.
Most hitches, regardless of market insert into the location aperture you have pictured. How they are secured or whether they have side stays is what differentiates them05 D3 V8 HSE, LR Passion tree bars, wildbear compressor guard, LRP switch panel, ARB rear locker + compressor, Trigger 6 shooter electrical system
12 RRS SDV6 HSE (Hers) - Gone and replaced with an I Pace - I can tell you now EV is not the future yet

Buy yourself a standard detachable towbar, it will be enough for your needs ...
It is connected to the place in the first photo.
You will have to make your own electrical installation and install a socket for the trailer, the basic installation is already there (on the right side in the trunk) only the last connecting harness with socket fuses is definitely missing. You can make it yourself.

Thank you both for the explanation. I will follow jackvoyager link and buy this hitch. However first I have to check how to proceed legally with it in Poland as my car do not have hitch mentioned in its registration.
Anyway, thank you.
