Positions of washer switches swapped?

Hi fellow discoverians

I just realized that on my 2008 TDV6 HSE (MY09) my switch/button for operating front and rear washing jets are the wrong way round.
- Front windscreen washer is operated by pulling the stalk (yet activating the rear wiper),
- while rear jet is activated by pressing the button on the stalk.

I always thought LR were plain stupid for having to activate rear wiper to wash the front windshield, but it seems that it’s just my car in question here...

Any hints on what on earth is going on there and why do i have such silly phenomenon - and how do i approach it to rectify and put it as it should be?

Cheers
Luka

The same pump is used to do both, working in two directions.

A few possibilities:

a) the inputs to the CJB from the column stalk are swapped (very unlikely)
b) the outputs wires from the CJB washer relays to the pump are swapped (unlikely)
c) the hoses from the pump to the front and back are swapped (most likely)

As Martin says its most likely the pipes swapped over at the pump.
Has the body been removed from the chassis?

Mine was the same when I got it, cannot remember what I swapped, but it was under the wheel arch liner and was quite easy to do.

Remove the left hand front wheel arch or just the front part if you can manage.
You will see two washer pumps the one nearest the chassis is the front and rear, you will see it has two pipes connected too it you just need to swap the pipes.
It would also pay to remove the pump and give your washer bottle a good clean while you are there, they get a lot of sediment and crap build up over time.

Many thanks guys!!
Correct as always!
It was the pipes being put the other way round. I couldn’t be bothered to deal with them, had my lovely service guys add 15 minutes (less than £10) to the last bill (glow plugs - no breakage! 😁 & coolant Y joint), they also cleared the pipes with compressed air. Man, the difference!
Clear sight now and switches make sense now (only need getting used to the right order Very Happy)

Cheers!
Luka

Mine did this back in the snow and ice. The washers packed up completely then the rear wash operated the screen and the screen wash operated the rear. I checked the switch inputs and any faults then it started working fine and has done ever since. I reckon the pipe froze causing the pressure to force the water out the other way.
