My time setting is GMT+2, just checked....
Speaking of roof racks, what's the consensus on those available in SA? Heard a lot of good reports on the Frontrunner option...

Posted at about 06h45 this morning - 04h30 bit early for me
If you plan to have the slide-in table underneath the rack, make sure you order the correct one, otherwise they supply the standard one.
Slide in table very handy - saves packing space and can be taken out and returned in a jiffy - great for those stops next to the road.Erstwhile - D3 S '07. Dual battery system. Upgraded tow hitch. Mantec skid plate. Frontrunner rr. Tmax double headed built in compressor

Got to be some advantage to have a c p currency and a hight crime rate - even if it's only to get the benefit of cheaper local made kit...
Deon, any other differences/advantages between the models?

LR Sandton "upgraded" my S model with steering mounted radio controls when I had had the sh t with diesel filter - maybe to try and pacify me
They also activated the self locking mechanism when driving off - guess this is standard on all vehicles and can be activated / de-activated.
AFAIK the SE and HSE models have more creature comforts, but the vehicles itself are similar.
You must realise I moved from a Defender to the D3, so even S model impressed me with all the gadgeteries.
My dream D3 ?? --- V8 with coil suspension, bigger fuel tank, manual transmission, manual centre/rear/front diff locks , no (if it is at all possible) electronics - i'll even settle for manual windows Erstwhile - D3 S '07. Dual battery system. Upgraded tow hitch. Mantec skid plate. Frontrunner rr. Tmax double headed built in compressor

Deon, I was actually referring to the difference in the roof rack models.... Sorry I confused you
BTW the '09 S has all that as standard, i.e. the premium radio pack, steering mounted controls, drive off self locking.
I like all the electronics and gadgets, it's the little boy in me I suppose. All I'd wish for was more override options to choose what I want to do.
Having gone from 20+ years of offroading in "simple" vehicles to this, shows how far technology has come. At least my progression was more gradual than Defender to a D3 - I went from a RR Classic to a D1, and two D2's before this.

FR vs LR roofrack
Quote:

The FR roof rack has better (tighter) arrangement of slats on loading surface;FR rack is much stronger than the LR roof rack and handles load and ardeous conditions much better.
The LR rack is pretty and appears more aero-dynamic. The LR roof rack has plastic rivited fittings that is prone to breaking off;
Overall, the FR rack will last longer, i have had one for more than 2 & 1/2 years and it has been used in harsh conditions, heavy loads, under very bad track conditions with no problems, very reliable.

IMHO the only thing the LR one has going for it is that it looks nicer and is has slightly less wind noise. And that's at almost twice the price

Yes - as long as they have diff-locks and low range Erstwhile - D3 S '07. Dual battery system. Upgraded tow hitch. Mantec skid plate. Frontrunner rr. Tmax double headed built in compressor
