I hear the Tartan paint is more expensive too. Whistle

Paint is just a scam. Even BMW don't charge extra for red, white, black base. Where on earth do LR get their pain prices from? Surely choosing a colour over white can't justify the hike? Still got to have a coat of white paint and lacquer.

BMW now charge a lot extra for solid red on a MINI - it's very sneaky though! If you order red, the configurator won't let you carry on unless you order a package of useless additional tinsel that is demmed essential for anyone who dares to have a red car. The cost? In excess of £2,000 the last time that I looked Evil or Very Mad

They never dumped the GS and it was just as poorly kitted out. When it switched from GS to SE the SE only gained the bright pack to justify the price increase.

Why? I bought a poverty spec manual D3 S 11.5 years ago and have been very happy with it. I chose 'poverty' spec becuase I didn't want leather (I still don't like leather) and it had everything I wanted on it:

Xenons, heated seats, cruise control and decent stereo.

Its one of the reasons I've kept it so long.

I did exactly the same in May 2005 buying the S which was well specced at time. I have resisted D4 and suspect will resist D5, helped by enjoying doing basic maintenance and feeling very much attached to the aging girl that has taken me on daily commutes of 150 miles and numerous touring/towing holidays. I have also avoided driving a D4 to avoid temptation!!!
2005, TDV6 S, Auto, 190k miles, owned from new, V8 Brake Upgrade, Nancom Evo, RLD protector, BAS EGR blanking & Remap, separate ATF cooler, changing all the fluids ahead of time.

£27K you sure? I paid £32K for my 06S Auto in Feb 2006 discounted down from £34K - remains the most expensive car I ever bought... Big Cry

I did configure up the poverty spec S this evening adding in my must have bits (excluding leather seats) and got to £49K which got me thinking...

Maybe get in quick if you want an S if LR do what they did when the RRS was announced. They originally had an SE (poverty spec) lower output 3.0 litre but just a shade over £51 IIRC but that soon went in the bin.

Getting a new 'new' car for less than the outgoing model is pretty good - air suspension, low box, 7 seats - and if you don't go crazy with the options you could get a niceish spec for similar price of the Graphite now.

The engine maybe the weak point but when the new FullFat came out everyone said stick to the v8 but the v6 was fine and has better residuals and cheaper road tax. So, horses for horse boxes.

Still looks better than a XC90 or Q7 in my opinion. But I do drive a Ford Ranger nowadays Embarassed

Problem is that if you are coming from a D3/4 with the V6 in it which is part of that intangeable extra 'feel good' (permagrin) feeling when you are driving it, when you go to any 4 Cylinder powered you will know and feel that it drives differently regardless of the quoted power outputs Thumbs Up

The bigger engine will always feel less stressed, I would say there will be a big difference in the feel and smoothness of the 6 pot engine regardless of BHP, similar to the 4 pot and 6 pot of the BMW engines. My 2.0 diesel produces 245 BHP mapped, but a 6 cylinder producing the same horse power just feel so much less frantic and relaxed producing the same power.
