Power lines

My poor old dad says he was speaking to a guy who had an early 05 D3 who claimed he had to get rid of it due to it being unable to start under high tension powerlines next to his house, has anyone ever heard of this before? or is it something for the mythbusters to examine?

Cheers

There's lots of things that can affect vehicle electronics (radar, microwave, cellphone masts etc.) but HV isn't one of them, even the second & third harmonics are nowhere near the 'danger' range of electromagnetic radiation Wink

If he's got high tension powerlines that close to his house, then he should move!

Forget about the D3; what about his kidneys, lymph nodes etc! Shocked

Even old fashion simple electronoics can fail near powerlines.

My old 91 RR lost speedo when i passed a certain spot on the freeway where powerlines crossed.

had to stop and restart to get the speedo back.

So i guess a D3 with even more sensible electronics - definately plausible.

Cheers

Jakob,
If that was occuring, it's more likely to be a latent defect in the wiring or a dry soldered joint acting as an antennae, ELF radiation is very unlikely to affect vehicle electronics

Did you say "ELF" radiation?
