Power Loss problem with P1179 fault code |
|
Anybody had experience of this particular fault code or these symptoms, P1179 (Air Mass flow rate) correction max negative value . Symptoms associated with this, a "Ping" , car looses power "Engine system Fault" shows on dash. System will reset with ether switch ignition off/on or simply slowing down to almost stop and then accelerate slowly again. It feels like a fuel starvation problem and after some homework on the net etc, the conclusion seems to be a fuel regulation problem ie when i demand power , if your just cruising its just fine. If you floor the throttle it will bring the fault and power loss back straight away.
I have already removed and cleaned the Mass flow sensor and my next move is to replace for new. Beyond this i need some advice.
Its an 06 Disco 3 , auto , i love this car but it always happens when i am in the outside lane of the M6 cruising past one of those Japenese 4x4's (with all due respect to the owners). I drove 300 miles last week without any problem but on the way back home it happened twice. would really appreciate any help, cheers

Get the dealer to solve it under warranty, a blocked or mis-connected fuel filter can cause some pretty wierd DTC's think this is one of them

If it was a 1980's Golf GTi with K-Jetronic then yes, i'd agree...
There is no throttle body (other than the one linked to the EGR's) and certainly no potentiometer
This was a very early method of measuring airflow using mechanical / electromechanical components which were prone to getting contaminated from the crankcase breather, the D3 uses a temperature compensated thermistor to measure air flow (in common with most current TD vehicles) the only other component that can 'throw a wobbly' in the air induction system is the MAP sensor but the DTC's do not relate to that and the only cause of errors in this sensor (ice forming) have been programmed out since 2006
BTW, did you know that GTi is just GiT spelt wrong?

Well done mate, contaminated fuel filter it was , looked like it had been there for the 40k of the cars life , despite some recent LR stamps in the service log. Goes like a dream now, cheers
