| Privacy glass only available on the HSE |

Dealer rang me yesterday about a test drive. I commented that I really wanted to wait for an SE (what I have) and that the price list had a rather large gap between the XS and the HSE which seemed to suggest that something would happen.
Anyway I priced up an XS to see if it would work for me. I'd already (partially) got over the fact that memory seats were only available on the HSE (even as an option) and then I was reminded that privacy glass is only available on the HSE. Strange one that! 2014MY Discovery

I think LR are trying to make sure the HSE is the premium model and are therefore making sure that the other models cannot be specced up too much. It is for this reason that you are likely to have a very long wait for an SE, it may not even arrive at all  I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.

Not a big issue as I'm at four years/40k miles so another two/three years would not be a problem.
I do find it strange that the gaps are so large between the price points. 2014MY Discovery

Cars are getting more like computers with shorter and shorter product lief cycles. I could always wait another two years for the Discovery5. 2014MY Discovery

This does irritate me, rather. Would anyone really upgrade to an HSE because they want privacy glass?
Surely, either you'd just do without (which means Land Rover does without profit form the glass) have someone else fit aftermarket privacy tinting (which means LR misses out again) or buy something else where the company allows you to spec the car as you want (LR misses out even more). I just don't see how it's a sane business decision

Indeedy. Personally I don't like aftermarket tints on as car as large as the Disco as its obvious that its a retro job. The Disco4 does appeal to me a lot but I will have to wait for one or two model year changes to get what I want. Its not an issue for me as my annual depreciation is reduced by delaying the change. 2014MY Discovery

FWIW my dealer fitted privacy to our D3 and I can discern no difference from factory fit.
I'm not sure this has to be dealbreaker does it as long as the retrofit is of a high standard ?
