I thought number plates had to be a certain dimension by law otherwise it doesn't get its approval ? ANPR etc
They're never going to make an odd shaped elongated plate to fit that space surely, it will just accentuate it. You would have thought that they would have designed the gap for a standard size plate not design a plate for a gap ? Is is that just what the designers call form function ?
Keeps them gainfully employed I suppose, like all the envioronmental forecasters, politicians and celebrities.Only dead fish go with the Flow !

Top one would be a lot better with a standard plate, bottom one makes it look like a rodent.

I think the asymmetric design looks very silly. It's a nod to the D3's superb design. They should have let it go when they decided to build the D5 with a single piece tailgate. I would't be surpised to see a symmetric design introduced in a future model year.
For those who are interested in licence plate regulations, there's a good briefing here.
There's a world of geekery around ANPR software and licence plate design and syntax.MY91 110 CSW, so long ago I can barely remember it - sold

I've really warmed to the D5 other than they need to fix the backend to make it symmetrical. It's easily done and I hope they deal with it at some stage as it's bloody awful at the moment.2014MY Discovery

Spotted a white D5 today on road waiting to pull out of side road.
From the side and front view I had of it, looked better in flesh than photos seen so far, but no rear view poss.
It also looked more distinctive than I imagined from Disco Sport, looks at lot bigger than that model, but as it made its way through Marlborough High St passing several D4's parked up in the middle of road, it looked a fair bit smaller in comparison.
Funnily enough also saw a D4 with a long rear number plate fitted at same time and that looked rubbish as well D4 Landmark MY16 Santorini Black THE LAST
