Economics.
It's almost certainly cheaper to produce the one loom across a given range that it is to spec individual looms in smaller quantities. I think you will find most products are the same. I sell products where the software is all there - you "buy" a release code if you want more features "To finish first, one first has to finish ...."

2005 model must check for free puddle light, althought prefer the new designisation of dog light,
kinda makes up for the other stuff that i cant get fitted like cruise control
Back in defender days , I had a tail light off a MF188 wired to the dash lights in the passenger footwell,
mates all called it a WH E light as it came in usefull for looking at legs
ahhh the eighties, short skirts , shoulder pads, and a clean pair of overalls draped across the passenger seat of a defender, simpler times
Dont think SWMBO would allow another red light as she was well PO'd when she heard what the defender light was known as

Thanks for the detail - so if I have understood correctly wiring is there but tied up just need light units to fit into existing mounting points in passenger & driver footwells??
Getting at the passenger side no issue - drivers side never had cause to remove panel below steering wheel how does it come off, traditional D3 heave ho and catch the clips as they fly off or is it hinged at all.
Cheers

Had my stealer fit the full kit, buttons etc all in,
he actually told me no bother to fit this kit, and all would be as standard except a light on instrument panel would not indicate Cruise is active
anyway when job was finishe the system would not recognise cruise kit and Stealer had to take it all back out
he told me it was because my 2005 was one of the first models and I'd have to change motherboards and allsorts
shame coz its the one thing i miss really badly as 95% of my driving is motorway

Mental Note
must organise an away trip to Eire for TFC, cant see him being idle here for a week or two
the words TFC conjure up image of a misterious figure dashing in to thwart the system like the film Brazil

IIRC Main dealer can't enable Cruise using LR system. You need an Autologic system and a TFC plus the hardware. No motherboards or other stuff . . .
Dealer would seem to be talking poooo "To finish first, one first has to finish ...."

Hey I have a 55 base 7 and with TFC magic and no additional electronics required presto Cruise control fully working and dash display as it should be - stealer talking out of his a se as usual!!. Only additional part is the switch unit on the steering wheel which either you get from TLO @ Yeovil or from scrapped D3 of which there are plenty around!!!
Go for it you will not regret it

TFC lives in derbyshire but roams throughout the UK and beyond in search of D3 owners who need his services
PM him and I am sure he will be able to help you,he has helped the irish boys before by coming over to the fair isle.

Isn't this thread supposed to be about Puddle Lights (i.e. the ones in the underside of the side rear view mirrors)?
I noticed a while ago that there are markings underneath the mirrors that could indicate that puddle lights could have been fitted.... 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue
