Punching a windscreen

Quick question. I hit my windscreen with the fleshy part of my hand today and it shattered. Haven’t hit it hard enough to hurt or Mark my hand, I assume the window had a defect what does everyone else think?
Just to clarify I was trying to stop a monkey eating my washer jets obviously.

I'd agree with your idea it must have had a fault.

What make of screen?
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Easy to do but only from the inside.
As said above slightest defect will make it crack so easy.

This sounds like that insurance advert with the horse wearing a kaftan and a tin man.

It’s easy to do from the inside, I was pushing a piece of wood in and only caught the screen and it cracked... there was hardly any pressure and it went so easy...
If it ain't broke... Take it apart anyway, how else you gonna find out how it works

Could it due to the shape? Convex or concave, like an egg easily breakable from the inside not the outside?

My mate did it in his company Passat a few months ago - he had a bit of explaining to do when the fitter commented this has been bust from the inside.
