Punctures - Bad Luck or Victimisation
I have now received my third rear tyre puncture in 12 months. Found a large headless screw protruding at an angle near the wear marker. All have been unrepairable and required new tyres. The latest tyre was only 3 months old. I am now beginning to feel this is not bad luck but I am possibly being targeted. Anyone else experienced a high number of punctures in their D3?
Thanks

I've had two in three years. All been thorns on the road post the local farmers hedge cutting.
I guess the only thing you can do is check around the wheels before you drive off for the next month or two.
Surprised they were not repairable. Both mine were by drilling a hole and plugging it with a rubber plug.

any "kwikfit" style outfit wont fix a puncture if its within 1/2 inch or so of the shoulder/sidwall, but there are specialist repairers who will, to a recognised BS standard. There's one in Birmingham I've used before, and its not something I would trust to anybody, as your safety depends on it.
If the hole's in the tread area, you should be OK.

Thanks for the replies.
The first time I took it to LR and they charged over £200 for a new tyre. Was going away for the weekend and was desperate for a fix. Second time I drove over to Hatfield, a friend’s recommendation, and trusted they were not going to rip me off. Could not repair but supplied + fitted new tyre for around £150 I think. Just received a call from them to advise they attempted a repair bur after a couple of hours it had lost pressure. I think the problem here is that the screw went in at an angle so they could not get a proper seal with the plug. They will have another look and if unsuccessful will order a new tyre. The other reason they often wont repair is if it has run flat or very low for any length of time. As the side walls are damaged. Not on the D3 but a on a Vectra GSI that length of time was 200 -300 yards. the time it took for me to stop on the motor way after driving over a lump of wood with a nail in it.

I did fail to mention that on the first occasion my other half had driven 17 miles to collect kids from school, very slowly, as she received a suspension failure warning. Parked up and the next thing someone was tapping on her window to let her know she had a flat tyre. Tyre replaced and suspension warning cleared in one go DUH! Discovery 4 HSE Santorini Black 2012

Worth getting a second opinion on whether a puncture can be repaired or not.
I had one a while ago which one tyre company wouldn't repair (though they only looked at the tyre on the vehicle), but another company said "well, I can't tell unless I take the tyre off to have a look" and concluded that a safe repair was possible, as there was no sidewall damage.
Had another which was also repaired, making 2 in almost 19,000 miles.Discovery 3 TDV6 5-Seat

Same happened to me.
Had to go through a different tyre dealer due to lease. Brand new tyre bought from Bob Jane Tyres three days previously: Oh no sir that will be a new tyre.
Went back to where I normally buy my tyres and they repaired it. Should I put it on as the spare them? No that repair will last longer than the tyre!“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

I agree it's definitely worth a second opinion, some outfits just want to sell new parts, but the guy that owns this place is a friend of a friend and I really think he would repair if he could. When they first saw the tyre they did say it was debatable but they would have a better idea once the rubber was removed. The first repair lost pressure so they had another go. I am awaiting the results of this. I can't even use it as a spare as I have one of those silly bike wheels.
What makes it harder to swallow is that I will also require 2 new fronts as the tread is almost worn down to the marker. If it were one of these I would not have an issue.

Must have picked it up just before getting home. (Looks like a screw embedded in the main tread).
Very relieved that I am changing the wheel in my garage with proper tools rather than on the A1 or M25 where I spent most of yesterday...Discovery 3 TDV6 5-Seat

Not sure if it's been mentioned before on here but I contacted my local dealer as I was looking to purchase a full size spare. He advsied that in Hertfordshire there have been a very high number of thefts. Those who have full size spares stolen are replacing with space savers.Discovery 4 HSE Santorini Black 2012

Not Just the only one!!!
I have now had three punctures in 8000miles, the last two on tyre with less than 1500 miles on them. Still using Pirelli Scorpions - beginning to wonder if these tyres were more prone to punctures than others. Two of my punctures have been chunks of metal leaving no option to plug. Would not plug anyway, for the sake of a few quid do you really want to take the risk?
Have bought all my Scorpions from ProTyre paid £545 for 4 with mobile fitting late November - service was excellent came within 45minutes of me calling. Just bought another single tyre for £135 (only had to ask for the 4 tyre discount level). Best of all they always have stock unlike the majority of places.
