Pure Highway - stuck in bootloop

Bit of a reach, this, but I know there are (or at least were) quite a few on this forum with original-model Pure Highway DAB receivers installed in their D3s, so I thought I'd ask ...

Mine decided this afternoon that, after working well for a very long time, it didn't want to play any more. The display backlight comes on, the "Pure Highway" text flashes up very briefly and disappears, and then the display backlight drops out again - and that cycle continues every few seconds. I can hold down the 'Menu' and '4+' keys to get the firmware loading screen, so I tried downloading the firmware from the Pure support site in the hope that a fresh install would do the trick (as detailed on Pure's own "how to un-brick your Highway" web page) - but the Highway isn't even recognised as a USB device when I connect it to a PC (tried two different machines with the same result).

So - anyone ever experienced this with their unit before? How did you solve it?

I have an Alpine DAB (essentially a rebranded pure highway) that did something similar, I found that unplugging it all and them reconnecting did the trick. Not sure if there was some static/latency issues happening. When my iPod was flat and connected it also had the effect of trapping it in a loop.

I didn't try any firmware updates with mine.
