I'm a biker and live on a wonderful bike road in the Scottish Borders.
I'm not bothered by loud pipes so long as they sound nice - what really REALLY gets my goat are peeps riding bikes along in 3rd gear making more noise than necessary while tootling along!!
Also, those that use loud 'cans' should ensure they can ride with mechanical sympathy!!! Nothing worse than down changes without balancing the revs or holding a gear too long when it's played at full volume

That was a point I made in an earlier post, it really does mark them out as
Some will try and argue it's holding it with the benefit of having immediate engine braking and/or acceleration. Its the theatre front road in Stratford-upon-Avon not the straights at Silverstone head.......
I've just sold my Ducati and replaced it with a Vespa 300, nothing offensive in it's putt-putt exhaust sound

Re: Question for motorcyclists |

James W wrote:What's the gig with illegal, deafining exhaust pipes? Since lockdown there seems to have been a big surge in bikes on the road as presumably motorcyclists have more essential journies and they just love using the roundabout nearby for standing starts.
I can't figure out what it is though with the ridiculous noise? Is it some kind of competition? Is it a sexual thing - Do you use them to impress or attract other like-minded men?
I also assume you have to fit a normal, legal exhaust pipe and stop riding it like a for one day to get your MOT?
Curious.
Surely it's obvious ? It makes the man-parts between their legs (and I'm not talking about the bike ) bigger. Clearly the ones who have loud exhausts feel a bit inadequate down there and this is a way to compensate.
On a more serious note we get a lot of bikes going through our village (on their way up into the Pennines for a day out) and I'd say 90% have 'normal' exhausts and stick more or less to the 30mph limit while going through. But that still leaves 10% of s who have this inadequacy that compels them to break the law ...

There was a crack down on loud pipes in the local town centre in 2010. I had a new Focus RS at the time, complete with standard factory exhaust, which the police pulled me over for and seriously tried to give me a ticket for!
They kept me for about 20 minutes while they thoroughly tested it (which involved a very ignorant policeman listening to it for about 10 minutes) until they reluctantly agreed that it was quiet and let me go. But before they did, they went over the rest of the car throughly, which was as it left the showroom. Fools!
What a waste of time With stupidity like that, there’s little chance of picking up on the actual law breakers. 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

Try living in the Philippines, most bikes are 180cc single cyl 4 strokes but all have open cans to amplify the sound.
24 hours of v slow bikes making a horrible racket.
The house is 100yrds from a main island road.
Back in the UK bikes made before 1980 I think, only need to have a "visible sign of silencing", not meet a decibel limit. Series 1 V8
