Question about route to take across France with 'van
Hi,
Heading over to France with the caravan next week and looking at an overnight stop off.
Any recommendations as to which route to take with the caravan of these three please?
Thinking avoiding Paris might be a good idea?
Thank you!

Personally I would try to avoid Paris if you can. I have towed and driven solo around the Periferique (and other routes a number of times, but it’s ALWAYS very busy, and the driving is utter madness at times. Many of the motorway junctions in the area are a fight too, so why endure the extra stress?

We spend a lot of time in France with our Airstream and we will always avoid Paris - we don't mind paying for the pleasure of using the French Autoroutes they are just something else with plentiful stops (aires) nice smooth surface and the pay ones (peage) are normally free flowing.LR Discovery 4 XS pulling an Airstream 532 Caravan also own (since new) a 1996 MGF

come down past Le Havre and Cean, and across via Rennes and down to Nantes - its dual carraiage way and toll free all the way to Nantes - aviods Paris and will save you some cash. Its only Toll from Nantes down to La Rochelle

Great stuff - thanks again.
We're going to IDR because it was recommended on here! Went to Brittany last year because of the recommendation on here too!
We're doing Hull to Zebrugge (40 mins from home and we're on holiday) and the splitting the drive down with an overnight stop (my back isn't great sitting for long periods)
My boys are 6 & 8, and we're hiring bikes whilst we're there. 6 year old needs to learn to not use stabilisers asap!
Can't wait!
Thanks for all the tips.2020 SDV6 D5 HSE, Carpathian Grey +

We took my daughters bike with us camping last year. Took stabilizers off over night, and told her the bike fairy took them off.
We had grass to ride on, and she got it within about an hour.
Might not be as easy with the 'tight' french sites. Unless there is a beach you can ride on there?MY07 Freelander2 SE Santorini Black - Gone

Just come back via Caen from Jard Sur Mer near La Rochelle, non Toll roads all the way 270 miles in 4 1/2 hrs, some friends used the toll roads and arrived at the same location 30 minutes earlier, not worth the cost for 30 minutes2011 Discovery 4 XS in Fuji White

Not when you take into account getting from the Hull area (OP) to Plymouth.
The Hull - Zeebrugge crossing is great, we use it most times. It’s so relaxing - sets off 18:00 ish and gets in 09:00 ish (everything is ish) and for us the benefit is avoiding the madness of the south coast of the UK on the way back after several weeks of easy driving abroad - apart from Paris!
