Question for those with RAI |
|
Those of you with LR's RAI, does it add wind noise? Any issues with it over time? Plastic fading, melting, sagging, or whatever else can happen to plastic ?

Some of the guys on here said that it increases wind/induction noise slightly, but as mine is on the passenger side I didn't notice any increase at all...it's also pretty much invisible to the driver so doesn't get in the way at all.
The plastic is very hard-wearing. It has a grained finish so doesn't show every little scuff mark and although I've scratched it a lot on branches etc, it still looks great.
I can't say it has faded at all but it would be hard to judge even if it had.
I seem to have a habit of getting bits of trees stuck at the top between the tube and the inlet where they are joined.
It's a good quality bit of kit and does what it says on the tin as long as we don't get into the 'my RAI/snorkel is sealed better than yours' argument 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

The top fixing (Rivnut thingy) broke away once at 110mph+ but it had been bodge fitted by a main dealer D3 HSE V8...

I have not noticed any increase in noise levels (and I am very sensitive to any noises). Only had the RAI installed for a month now but so far very pleased.

Although I am not a smoker, I have heard it creates a abnormal vortex around the front edge of the drivers window which makes it difficult to smoke while moving along.
Apart from that, no nasties.

Gareth, that is true!
Fag ash flicking has to be an accurate affair indeed.
Noise. Only an issue with the window open above 50mph.

For us with the RAI on the passenger side, no wind noise. I got mine second hand and it still looks in good condition.
As for coming off...? Have had it caught and no issues. No problems at speed. The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

Gareth
there was a whole thread on this some time ago in which TLO investigated this with LR

It's a design chabge from the manufacturer
No reason given other than that
Early ones had slots, current and futeure no slots...
The guy did say..."Why not sell him a file"
Anybody else got no slots and find decrease in fuel economy ? if so give me details and i will pass it back but as i'm not the only LR dealer selling these and no one else has asked the question it may be unrelated I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats.
