Quick (positive) egr question

Hi all, quick question, got the disco booked in for the egr deletion patch on Monday morning, to keep costs down Iโ€™m doing the physical blanking myself. Is it best to do the physical blanking before I take it in or once I get back home or does it not matter?
They also have a stage 1 remap on offer, are there any risks to over-stressing engine parts etc?

Cheers all

I would say blank it after, no point in potentially having an engine light on to mess up things?

Been looking into the options for a remap myself and there's lots of comments and threads on the forum about it. Regarding overstressing the engine, from what I've read the most important thing to do is take it someone who does remaps professionally and has a good reputation. These places/people will assess your engine fully (and any upgrades fitted or to be fitted) and discuss what it is you want from the remap. They'll then tailor your new map to, as far as possible, give you what you want without overstressing your particular engine. Cheers Smile

Thanks Kenny, place has a good rep locally so should be good and Iโ€™m leaning towards just the egr delete. Donโ€™t want to put too much stress on her Smile

The collective wisdom I've gleaned from the forum.... actually I'm gonna call it TCW cos everything on a Disco seems to need a three letter acronym! So, TCW on the EGR delete is that it gives minimal performance benefits but improves the life of the engine noticeably.

TCW also seems to be that you can get some decent performance improvement by cleaning your MAF sensor, putting a fresh air filter in, lubricating your TAR (I made that one up... I mean your turbo actuator rod), making sure your injector timing is spot on, and running a tank laced with turbo/injector cleaner in it regularly. (all stuff I'm in the process of doing on mine)

Beyond that, an intercooler upgrade will let the old girl breath more easily and the extra cooling of the intake air will allow more scope on the remap. A low resistance air filter and deletion of some of the boxes in your exhaust system will also allow the engine to breath more easily giving even more potential for improved performance on the remap. (stuff I'm thinking about doing on mine)

After that it all gets a bit hairy with upgraded turbo etc, but I don't think many of us want to put our engines to that sort of test. (stuff I'm not going to do on mine)

Good luck Thumbs Up

All done! Software delete courtesy of MTC in North Birmingham, got it home and blanked them off. Only hard part was getting to all the screws on the butterfly actuator, had to free the whole unit and lift up to get a screwdriver into the two bottom ones. Sounds anecdotal but felt smoother and more responsive on the test drive once Iโ€™d finished. Smile

I only blanked mine for one reason, reliability Mr. Green

I read a thread on here a few years back where a guy had broken down as egr stuck open rendering the car inop, Iirc he was somewhere remote at the weekend, and his fix was a 2 pence coin to blank the egr to get him home, and I thought sod that lets blank it now as I do not want to break down in the first place.

It means you've probably read every conversation on this forum ever! So regardless of your own knowledge and experience you now know the collective wisdom of nearly everyone who's ever posted on here. Pretty much everything there is to know about D3's then. Hence the Bow down Very Happy Very Happy

Gimme 20 or 30 years and I might catch up... maybe Laughing
