RAC Tyre cover - UPDATE spacesaver help please
Anyone had to do a call out on this?
How does it work?
Got a small puncture, but just trying to sort out some time for me to do it.
TIA
Called RAC out this morning 11:30.Thye arrived at 4, after me calling again.
Space-saver put on. RAC has authorised replacement tyre. However I can only use ATS or Halfords.
Halfords cannot do anything until Monday.
Didn't get through to all the local ATS before they closed. The ones I did either didn't have the tyre, or did have the tyre, but not the capacity. Didn't help, that one store said that 255/55/19 was an obscure size.....
Main issue. I am taking the tin tent to Swindon on Friday, and bringing home its replacement.
I don't want to, BUT can I do this with the space-saver if necessary. Obviously speed restricted to 50. This would involve a 45 mile each way journey inc 20 miles on M4.MY07 Freelander2 SE Santorini Black - Gone

Anyone near you that can lend you a wheel with a tyre on it? As long as stock size will be the same rolling circumference as your other 19”ers and a lot better than a skinny spare.

How much is the insurance? A full size spare from a D3 will be around £100 with a tyre on it. It would save you a lot of grief and would allow you more flexibility.
First jobs I did on my D4 when I bought it, removed the locking wheel nuts and replaced them with standard ones and ditched the space saver for a full size spare.1972 Range Rover Classic 2 door V8

£1.20 per month for up to 4 tyres per year at £150 each.
Hadn't had the spare off, and honestly though it looked like a full size.MY07 Freelander2 SE Santorini Black - Gone

Hi,
unless this has changed in the last couple of years it IS legal to tow on a space saver,
your choice if you do or not but when I was in a company car part of our business spec was a Full size spare as it is preferred but when legal got involved to confirm a space saver was acceptable but on a safety ground they still went the full size route

Have checked. It is legal to tow with a space saver.

FINALLY, all sorted.
Been a bit of a b*ll ache, but done.
Apart from the limited companies (ATS & Halfords), once I could get a booking and a tyre in stock it was straight forward.
£24 per year for up to £600 worth of tyres ( 4 x £150) it was worth it.MY07 Freelander2 SE Santorini Black - Gone

Phoned up to complain about my renewal price.
Ended up paying overall £10 less than last year, but got tyre cover for £2pm and Battery cover for just under £4pm.
Don't expect them to honour that at the next renewal, but will try.
Plus been a member for over 10yrs, and probably only called them out 6-7 times, until this year.
Twice already.MY07 Freelander2 SE Santorini Black - Gone
