Radiator Removal

Well, the time has come Confused , i need to remove the radiator to clean out all the sand, clay, ramblers, seeds, mud and general crap. and at the same time clean the horn Embarassed , i seem to have acquired a VA Noddy horn Embarassed

I'm not happy doing all on my own so have decided to get some help from a mechanic neighbour. Tomorrow at 14:00 .....

I have read BCB's thread (and printed it Thumbs Up ) but was wondering if there are any specific step by step instructions available anywhere. I dont think i need to remove the intercooler and aircon rad, can I just remove the engine rad and then get a hose pipe to the others. Ive tried washing out the engine rad on the vehicle but the clay is solid and wont budge.

I'll try and take a few pics of the removal and write some instructions if non already exist

Thanks
 Duncan

Having been through the pain of removing and refitting the rad and intercooler... I wouldn't bother again. I'd just take the fan out and hose the rads from the engine side, in situ. If I'd have spent as much time hosing as I spent last time removing and refitting the rads (about six hours Embarassed ), then the rad would end up pretty clean.

And I wouldn't have to get my aircon regassed Rolling Eyes

Wiggs, 8754WX

many thanks for instructions Thumbs Up seems like a big job Confused

BobbyCrispBox.. , did you drain all the coolant as per instructions ie front heater and rear heater, or di you just pull the rad pipe off and let it all gush out Thumbs Up I am assuming that doing it that way may cause some airlocks ??

That's what the instructions say to do Confused
Quote:
Release the clip and disconnect the radiator lower hose, allow the coolant to drain.

Quote:
1. Position the vehicle on a lift.
2. Set the heater controls to maximum.
3. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
4. Remove the engine cover.
5. WARNING: Since injury such as scalding could be caused by escaping steam or coolant, do not remove the filler cap from the coolant expansion tank while the system is hot.
Remove the coolant expansion tank cap.
6. Remove the radiator access panel.
Remove the 4 bolts.
7. Position a container to collect the fluid.
8. CAUTION: Engine coolant will damage the paint finished surfaces. If spilt, immediately remove the coolant and clean the area with water.
Release the clip and disconnect the radiator lower hose, allow the coolant to drain.

I did all that.

But I didn't disconnect the heater hoses because I don't have a rear heater. The front heater, I believe, is part of the main rad assy, so no hose to disconnect.

In fairness, it was long enough ago that I can't remember the detail. I might have disconnected hoses to another rad that I can't remember. I can only remember doing stuff with the main rad, AC rad, fuel cooler and intercooler.

All I can say is I followed the instructions faithfully.
