Radio sound and functions freezing

27/2/18 - I've renamed the thread title as its not just the radio, its the whole headunit cutting out/freezing.....

The past month or so the radio signal is terrible, we did use it a lot as in Northumberland the DAB signal is not great, neither is the car's DAB reception.

The parking sensors were playing up and I had read that the 2 faults can be connected somehow. I have bought a new rear PDC loom and its waiting to be fitted. Thing is the sensors have been working fine now for a few weeks but the radio is still terrible.

I've checked the popper connectors on the quarter windows and they are fine.

Going through the hidden menus I have found this so took a photo - code '8105514'

Does anyone know where I should start looking? Of course I'll do the rear PDC loom first but I'm not too hopeful that will work.

It might have a different cause.

The poor FM reception problem might be as a result of work that is going on across much of the country on the transmitter masts. It isn't related to Radio but DTV (to free bandwidth for 5G). However, in order to do the the antenna work, they have to reduce the power of all services and quite often switch them off for a few minutes to stop the riggers from frying as they climb past the RF hazards.

Whereabouts are you having the problem. I'll try and remember and take a look and see what if anything is happening around there.

I've had that fault on the hidden menu for years (but hardly ever use FM as DAB reception pretty solid around where I live, on very rare occasions I've used FM, always OK)

Today i swapped the rear parking sensor loom and suprisingly the radio signal is much better.

Although a new thing is happening now, where the radio sound cuts off for a couple of seconds. When it does this the 'DAB' & 'CD'' buttons are dimming out on the screen & the 'Portable Audio' changes to 'Aux' momentarily. This has definitely never happened before. This is happening every 5 or so in the journey.

The old loom had this box new one does not have a connector for it

ETA - Censored . This is an antenna for keyless entry. Maybe i needed a different loom as mine is an early d4

I have refitted the antenna and the boot's keyless is working again.

The radio is still cutting out though. When it cuts out the screen is frozen and the 'radio/dab/cd/portable audio' buttons are dimming out. The cut outs are usually 2 lasting seconds. One time it was more like 10 seconds.

Battery voltage when locked and sleeping is 12.3v - Short 2 min drive afterwards the battery voltage was swinging between 11.3 & 12.7 then went straight up to 14.5. Parked up and left the engine running it went back down to 12.7-8ish.

My understanding was as soon as the engine is running the battery should be sitting above 14.0v

All readings above apart from when sleeping are through the hidden menu.
