Raise / lower car via steering wheel buttons
One of the first things that bugged me with the new D4 was the position of the terrain response knob and height adjustment switches . I think there useless were they are ...so i decided to use some spare adaptive cruise control buttons to operate them .
There is no spare pins on the clock spring ( well just one ) so i had to do it remotely .
While i was there i wired in the flappy paddles aswell . ( unfortunatly these still cannot be enabled ..but hopefully when the new software is out in September that might change )
Fairly straight forward ..although there is some soldering of very small connections .
The adaptive buttons are sort of the wrong way round ...one shows a small icon ..the other a large . So logically the small would be to lower / large to raise ....but the lower is at the top . I just wired them as top button raise ..bottom button lower ...i can swap them round very easily if i wanted .
i removed the original pins and connected in some new ones ..that way it can all go back when needed

these are what the adaptive cruise control switches look like ( there not mounted up there ..they sit on the left of the steering wheel )

Great work!
Do you know if the adaptive CC buttons can be fitted to a 2010 wheel that doesn't have them?
How did you interface to the gearshift wiring? I purchased a 4-channel remote similar to yours but haven't got around to fitting it but really look forward to having it operational. Did you connect the relay directly to the up and down wires or via your own hall-effect sensor or similar method? I have some hall-effect sensors ready to use but if a direct connection is OK then that's simpler. I regularly only want to upshift rather than drive in manual mode, although sometimes specifically manual mode too.Home of LLAMS, for LRs and Jeep GCs

When I took the left hand switch apart .. The adaptive cruise is part of it ( as in the wiring for the main circuit board is attached to the adaptive part ) .. So I suspect you would have to get the complete left switch with adaptive .
Connections were directly to the up / down shift wires at the gear selector ( you can also find these in the second battery box )
I didn't put any relay or hall -effect sensors . I know about the issue with false signals and gearbox errors ... But to be honest it's only a temp solution till the d4 software comes out for flappy paddles ( assuming that is compatable )
It works great ... Unless you hold the paddle for too long .. Then it generates the gearbox error .G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

Thanks Wiggs.
I had just discovered I had missed Pete Bell's connection details earlier this year.
Edit: I hadn't previously noticed the blank panel below the CC buttons, so will see if 2 press-button momentary switches can be mounted there for the gearshift up and down, or possibly even 4 switches as I often use access height for my wife and fumble for the switch.Home of LLAMS, for LRs and Jeep GCs

Top job there Wiggs 8)
I like that remote & 4ch receiver & have just the job for one, albeit not quite as cool as your application.
If you could post up the details on the what & where for the remote & receiver, I'd appreciate it

Hi Wiggs,
Could you provide info on the connector & wires in the 2nd battery box please? They sound as though they might be more accessible and thus allow me to get my remote switches working sooner.
Thanks.
Edit: I found a likely connector with wire colours matching the gear selector and now have remotely-operated gearshift paddles.Home of LLAMS, for LRs and Jeep GCs

hi wiggs
thinking of doing this paddle mod only and just wondering if you had a more details wiring diagram regarding the wires from the flappy paddles to the key fob and the connection in the gearbox in a d3
i have the heated rrs 2010 wheel and rather than use a wireless set up would it be possible to use the heated wheel wires through the clock spring as i dont really need a heated wheel
many thanksLast night I lay in bed looking up at the stars in the sky and I thought to myself, where,s the f**king ceiling!!

Another smart mod from Wiggs. Credit!
But how did you do the mod to get the fuel gauge to read full (see pics above)? Mine only stays like that for a milisecond. 2016 D4 Landmark SDV6 (Euro6), Zanzibar (late run D4)

Am I right in thinking that this steering wheel is off a RRS and that ACC is sadly still not available on a Disco?2016 D4 Landmark SDV6 (Euro6), Zanzibar (late run D4)

Late reply here - Wiggs, Christian, our chief engineer, saw your thread and decided he could do this more quickly with an IIDTool.
The function allows the use of the CC switchgear to raise and lower the suspension. It could be implemented so that a long (3-5sec) press of the CC resume buttons toggles between CC function and EAS functions for the switchgear with a short message popping up in the info display to confirm the mode. The IIDTool does need to remain plugged in for this to work.
At the moment it was just a little experiment for Christian (big boys, big toys... ). And leaving the IIDTool plugged in is not really an option. But making a very small add on module that piggy backs on to the bus system is... We'll see where all this takes us - and if there is interest.

Guys I see a number of references to Adaptive Cruise Control in the thread. My understanding of ACC is that the vehicle will automatically maintain a set distance from the vehicle in front when cruise control is active (eg fitted to some Jaguars) Are you saying the the D4 has this system? Only it's not mentioned in the manual?
