snorkel for disco 3

I was told the Safari one was LRSA approved ?

the only snorkel aproved by LRSA is the Mantec due to U.K Aproval and conditions. they are more expensive but its a whole lot cheaper than paying for a new engine yourself.
R 6050.00 excl fitment. Shocked

Just to be clear. The Mantec is a raised air intake - not a snorkel .

one and the same thing. the Brits call it a raised air intake and Australia and most of S.A call it a snorkel. The yanks call it anything from raised air intake to cool air intake and anything in betwean.

Nope - the safari is a totally sealed unit allowing you to go deeper than side intake on car (as deep as you would like ) . The mantec is a raised air intake that will still allow water into the engine if you exceed side intake depth

Both have valid points, and how deep is deep, how deep is
your pocket Whistle and how accommodating will LR be if
it swallowed water with an approved RAI fitted MMMMMMM Exclamation
If you were to get " stuck or stalled " with the water level at
bonnet height, with both systems it will still be a R Question shocker.
With the above in mind, my money would be on the Safari, but
I have the Mantec/LR one and have dunked it a few times.
The question is, how long do you want to be so DEEP?
The bottom line is that a non approved product can be better
than the approved one, with no detriment to the vehicle, just
fitted in such a way to enhance their spec, goes a long way.

Actually I think you will find that Land Rover call it a raised air intake so that what we call it. If you are talking about a water proof raised air intake we would call it a snorkel Thumbs Up

At what point or where does the safari snorkel stop Question Does it run over the rad and drop down onto the pipe that comes up from the intercooler Question There is a very poor joint there in the standard vehicle.

Safari one replaces the hose from the air box to the snorkel, all is sealed.

Oh so the standard crap connection to the right of the rad where the pipe drops down is still vulnerable.

Do you mean the one after the airbox hels by a hose clamp?

Isn't it all academic...?

Whether its Mantec RAI or Safari Snorkel, if you go that deep for any period of time aren't you going to Censored the electronics anyway...?

Just my thoughts...happy to be proven wrong (by someone else's car...I won't be trying it... Laughing )
The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

Club "yes, I too have had the EGR's replaced..."
Club "yes, I too have had the compressor replaced..."
Club "yes, I too once had the car at the dealer for a couple of weeks nearly 4 weeks over 4 weeks...5 weeks"
Club "yes, I too have had EPB failure..."
Club "yes, I too get mysterious bings and bongs..."

Best nip over to RRSport and ask Very Annoyed about what happens if your car stops for a prolonged period in deep water. I'm sure he'll be more than happy to provide you with a dispassionate summary Thumbs Up
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

The main reason I bought a snorkel was as insurance if I really stuff things up. I don’t intend to drive in water above the recommended 600mm depth but…. we don’t live in a perfect world…
The other reasons are
- Clean air intake in dusty conditions while following other vehicles
- A small improvement in fuel economy

Agree,
Snorkels are like insurance; the Safari has a more watertight policy than the OEM Mantec (pun intended).
The other thing you should do is seal the modules behind the main battery. I coated mine well with 'Plasticote'.

Am about to go on trip through Moremi (Kavango, most rain in Botsawana in recorded history) and want to explore - saw the exchanges re snorkel vs the LR Mantec (gimmic? it certainly must work for dust, thus a "RAI" only). The safari (unpretty as it is) seems to be the solution.

Does the CPU/modules behind battery remain in place when you applied plasticote (which one - 70?). Sprayed aerosol on?

What about the air channel beyond the fitting on the r/side of vehicle - is that waterthight?
