Rated recovery points

Does anyone know if you can fit rated recovery points to a D4 and if so where? On my Discovery 300TDi I use a special tongue on the rear 4000kg rated tow bar for recovery, and had two points fitted by ARB on the chassis at the front. The same tongue fits the rear tow bar on the D4 but wondered where to get the rated recovery points fitted at the front. Any advice or suggestions greatly appreciated. Recovery points are a basic necessity off road. Very Happy

doesn't the D4 have recovery points in the same place as the D3 then? Under the panel at front and in the towing electrics panel at the back?

Jeff this is an old debate that is as relevant to the D4 as it was to the D3 albeit the D3 is slightly heavier than the D4....it is yet to be demonstrated that there is any greater requirement for additional recovery points beyond those already attached to the vehicle. Thumbs Up

Unless you compete in events - which require stamped ratings. I think Gordon will be along with some input shortly!

I've done some pretty hard core recoveries with my D3 on both front and back points and there was never an issue

From memory the 2 recovery points are rated at 2.5 times the weight of the vehicle.
Cheers

Many thanks to all for the feedback. The D4 has the recovery points in the same place as the D3 from what I can see. Just needed to confirm that they were genuine recovery points (for using a snatch strap) and not just on road tow or tie down points. Smile

They are Recovery Points, Due to legalities LR will not make it known that they are/can be used for recovery due to some peoples stupidness & therefore leading to court cases if something goes wrong.

Obviously when using, do it with caution & dont be silly about it.

Cheers.

I'm not sure I buy into that argument. Why would it be any more problematic for Land Rover to certify/rate them as recovery points than it would be for ARB to certify/rate their after market stuff?

I'd be willing to bet the recovery points don't meet design standards and therefore cannot be rated (despite them probably, and anecdotally being strong enough).

....and we'd all have to admit the front one doesn't look like it's up to the task.

I have an email somewhere from one of the LR guys who managed the G4 Challenge - he says they are engineered (front and rear) at over 6 tonnes.

(I couldnt find any info anywhere on the net so wrote to LR - they said they couldnt/wouldnt advise what the "rating" was and referred me to the G4 guys and they said LR would never put it in writing "for legal reasons" but I would never ever have a problem as they had recovered dozens of LR's during all G4 stages (RRS, D3, Freelander etc) all using the front receovery point and never had one failed.)

Thanks BlackAdelaide, this is most reassuring. Think I will take a chance with the standard "recovery points", not that I intend to get bogged, but eventually it will likely happen Very Happy
