Rear (5) seat attachment query: "Help, my car was a van
Hi,
I am trying to refit seats in a car that had the rear seats loose inside when I bought it.
Is there supposed to be some sort of rail running behind the rear (2nd and only row) seats on the driver and passenger sides?
How does the back of these seats Clip on?
There seems to be some sort of jaw on the rear, bottom of the seat frames that would want to connect to something. I have had the carpet up and don't see anything.
I just picked up this low mileage 2006 Disco 3 Basic version from Belgium, as you do. This left the factory as a car, had the seats and belts removed and a cargo base installed (With security shear bolts, thanks for that dealer!). I have one last shear bolt to remove (Soaking in brake fluid now) which I hope to shift this weekend.
The thing is, as I look at these seats I can see exactly how the middle seat and front of the adjacent seats will attach, but the rear of the adjacent seats look like they need something I don't have. I would like some help to identify what that is and get it from a breaker proto!
I can only speak for the 7-seater where the seats bolt straight to the floor - no jaw or bar involved. I presume the folding/tilting is broadly the same for a 5-seater but they are rare beast and may have a unique seat arrangement.
Assuming they are the same, when you offer the seats up it's easier if you have them tilted forward - then you can see where the fixing bolts (torx) go.
The jaw you refer to may be part of the tilting mechanism - when the seat is tilted forward there is a jaw/clamp that closes on a bar that forms part of the seat frame when the seat is returned to normal position.I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

There is a metal plate that fits on the floor approx. 4ft long 4inch wide that bolts to the floor which then the seats latch on to
Oh yeah, that bit I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

No worries, glad I had a vague memory that it was in the garage. I hadn't even seen the part number on the thing, had it in & out the car many times but never looked at it too closely. It's easy to fit once you lift the carpet out the way a bit, don't put a bolt through the holes in the middle til you work out which go through the centre seat base "bracket" then the strip. Also don't forget to copper slip the bolts before they go in or you'll have fun taking them out should you want to. Plus you could change the torx bolts for high strength hex bolts, easier to work with.
