Rear AC lines - do you have to lift body ?

Have a v8 hse with rear ac leak. Had the o ring seals replaced and didn't fix the leak. LR dealer does not know where the leak is. They recommend bypassing rear ac and just run with front ac. They say body has to come off the frame to replace all the rear ac line and that could cause other problems. Anyone in the business out there who has done rear ac lines a few times and can comment ?

One would normally say dealer knows best but my experience suggests that is not always the case. They recommended never changing auto box oil, which we know is bs. Just replace it according to schedule and dont leave it to way past schedule.

Anyway, back to rear ac lines. Any tips, words of wisdom, your experiences?

They can perforate anywhere along their length due to moisture being held in the foam insulation...
Some people have had theirs replaced in situ using plastic alternatives...
Mine went recently and it was far easier for me to replace it with the bypass...the question you need to ask yourself is how often do you carry rear seat passengers...and more importantly do they need individual control of their own air conditioning?
Bypassing mine Still cools the entire car anyway. Very Happy

Can be done in situ, an a/c pressure test with nitrogen and a bottle of soapy water is all you need to find the leak.

Ive done the one along the inner sill about 4 yrs ago, not to bad but air susp air tank has to come off.

Just recently Ive done the sill to over rear diff one and have to say that was pretty difficult as done on the floor, air compreesor has to come off and the a/c pipes come siamesed and its much easier to remove the p-clips holdng the pipes together and running them in on their own.

If you have dogs rear a/c is an excellent thing to have.

The indy shop recommendation is to replace all of them so dont have to go back in for another 10 years. My concern is disturbing compressor etc and breaking that or mounts, body bolts etc.or getting substandard fitting so pipes not held properly and rattle around. If you say it can be done properly in situ then that gives me a little more confidence in the job.
Had some mixed results with "professional" work and their t-shooting.

I have fairly regular fussy rear seat passenger who goes straight to rear hvac controls, plus I do occasionally have it in bus mode with 3rd row occupied, hence desire for trying to keep the full functionality..

A member here had the pipes replaced with plastic ones by a mobile AC specialist. The cost was very reasonable and far less than a main dealer.

Thanks very much for all the tips and good info. I'm thinking the non LR plastic/flexible line repair for rear might be good viable option if access tricky or bolts seized. Cut old lines and splice in a parallel flexible section. Rave manuals dont seem to cover line replacements.

You don't need a bespoke bypass pipe if you want to drop the rear aircon, it is a standard part for non rear aircon vehicles available off the shelf from LR.
