Rear Brake Disc Marked

Recently changed my discs and pads all round, noticed I have a mark on one of the rear discs, just stripped it down to see what was causing it but can’t see anything obvious, wondering if it’s a fault in the pad? Any of the eagle eyed out there see anything?

I had this on new discs. I think since asbestos was banned from brake pads, they put all sorts of other stuff in them. It's possibly a hard inclusion in the pads. The mark in my discs went away after a few thousand miles.

Is it coincidental that the score is at the end of the grooves? Could the pad debris be getting pushed to the end of the groove and causing the score?

Possibly, but it’s only that one you’d think it would be the same all round? I’ve been in contact with the suppliers for their input, I’ll see what they say

Reply from the supplier -

It looks like there is a lot of debris in the slot on your pads, I would clean the slot out and re-assemble and check again after a few hundred miles. It looks like some dirt has been trapped between the pad and the disk.

I can’t see how dirt would get between the pad and disc and it was clean when I took it apart, think I’ll fit the old pads and see if it makes any difference

I often get grit and stones stuck between pad and disc - makes a hell of a racket. Sometimes it can only be removed by reversing, so they may be speaking sense.

I would also check to see if that side has a sticky calliper. You may not even notice in the cabin. Take it for a spin and when you get back, throw some water on each disc and see if the scored one gives off more steam/hissing.
