rear cam chain

Hi wgw,I am confused about the rear chain /cam belt at rear of engine.
i went to local jlr dealer and asked them if the sdv6 is chain or belt and he went
to the workshop to ask and came back and said belt driven the range rover has chain driven cams.
So please tell me as i am confused.colin h.

The TDV6 (and SDV6) have both!

A belt drives the outer cams at the front of the engine.

Chains join the two cams together at the rear of the engine (inside the cylinder head castings) so driving the inner cams (4 cams 2 cylinder heads)

A further belt drives the high pressure fuel pump, from the end of one cam at the back of the engine.

Thumbs Up

There is a belt which drives the High Pressure fuel pump at the back of the engine. The two camshafts on each bank are connected and timed by a chain, also at the back of the engine Thumbs Up

United Kingdom 2008 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Manual Stornoway GreyDiscovery 3

There are 2 belts and 2 chains on the TDV6 engine, which is a double overhead camshaft engine. The main timing belt, a belt to drive the injector pump (hpfp) and a chain connecting the camshafts for each cylinder head, ie one camshaft is belt driven and then drives the other camshaft via the chain.

Hope that helps.
