I dropped the spare to change a tyre today and the condition or the rear diff caught my eye.
It looks like it's been dragged out of the sea with several sizeable flakes of metal falling off the outside
The car spent its early like near the sea which probably explains the corrosion but is it cause for concern or common sight on these cars at 12 years old?
I'm concerned that the casing could potentially rupture or if it requires maintaince, i'll never get those bolts out in on piece.
Peace of mind welcomed

I would probably just clean it up with a wire brush and give it a coat of some anti rust - many different brands available. They are a cast steel product.

I'd be more concerned about the condition of the chassis...My D3 Build Thread
I'd be more concerned about the condition of the chassis...
What would you recommend that Nick does regarding the chassis?
Pressure wash/steam clean, inspect & then decide? If one does this are there any special precautions? Clearly avoid wiring, brakes, sensors etc.. but any other advice?
