REAR DIFF LOCK ON GS!!

Can anyone help i would like to fit a rear diff lock on my GS manual has anyone done this? And any idea on the cost? Thumbs Up

The Rear diff lock is, as KEN says, as factory fit option and cant be retro fitted.

The cost of mine at time of purchase was £450, but I think they are now up to £495

Landrover told me they are already installed during manufacture??
they told me the £450.00 I paid was to activate it electronically??!! so much for customer services.
They also told me I did'nt need one unless I was a sheep farmer in Wales, so I bought a wellington boot as well, just in case! Rolling with laughter

Mine rarely engages, even in challenging sand driving - I think a couple of months back there were some posts on the matter and the general consensus was that no one's seen a 2-difflock D3 get somewhere that a 1-difflock D3 can't.

My rear diff locks up more than the centre. although I accept you cant really tell by looking at the 4x4 display as the diffs can partially lock before the lights come on (or so I'm told)

And I agree that I'm not sure the rear diff makes that much difference Confused

Anyone know if this is true for both centre & rear diffs i.e. they are already installed as standard and just require the electronics to activate? Confused
 LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

Nope not true. All D3's have active centre diff as standard, active rear one is a factory option that involves fitting addition hardware. There's some pics around here somewhere of what to look for if you're not sure if the active rear one is fitted or not

From part experience/tests a D3 without the active rear diff fitted will get everywhere that one with it fitted can but it may require a bit more momentum to get there

Pic of the rear diff actuator motor. Only fitted on those with active rear diff, so Saw's Land Rover contact was talking utter pony about it just needing to be enabled by the dealer. Unless "enabled" is shorthand for "replace CJB, wiring loom and goodness knows what else before chucking out the rear drivetrain and fitting this nice new one".
 I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

I used to have a Range Rover Sport (basically an LR3 with a shorter wheel base and a different body style for more money Rolling Eyes ) without the rear diff lock. Compared to those with the diff lock, I was unable to get up the steep rock crawl hills, even in the same terrain response mode. Now I have an LR3, and made a point to get the one with the rear diff lock. In rock crawl mode up the same hill, it's very easy now, and according to the 4x4 info screen, the rear is locking. Only difference I can point to is the rear diff lock, so it makes a difference if you ask me. It almost seems too easy at times. 8)

Where is that bit and do you have any other indicators that it is there, like a light on the dash,

Set terrain response to rock crawl in low gear and start driving up a 30 degree slope. If you see the red lock icon on the rear diff in the 4x4 screen, then you've got it. 8)

The lack of 4x4 screen might cause a problem Embarassed

Mine is only a S spec unfortunately
